The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

I live about 35 miles from Shiloh, close to a town called Belmont. I loved seeing all the out of state tags whenever we went to visit Shiloh yesterday, saw Illinois, Texas, Florida , Georgia plates and people walking around taking pictures. It warmed my heart knowing this place is so close to me, knowing my ancestors likely fought each other in this battle.

I'm really enjoying the series. That being said, please tell me I'm not the only one giggling at the fact that Peabody & Sherman are on the field. They're helping us go way back.

I've lost count of how many ABT videos I have watched, but an overriding impression is that Garry is the one who ties it all together. Kris and the guests are also wonderful. Thanks so much for all you do.

I visited Shiloh 2 years ago and I was so impressed with how preserved the land is. Places like Antietam or Gettysburg have development encroaching but Shiloh is remote. I really felt as though I was seeing the land the way my ancestors saw it in April 1862.

Only Antietam is comparable in my opinion. Different.. but just like 1862

Enjoy watching these videos. Before I go to Shiloh I will know something and not be wondering around trying to get the flow of the battle. Makes it more enjoyable for me. Thank you

One of the few battlefields that was left in the condition it was in the Civil War, NO encroachment by urban sprawl.

I heard the Prentiss quote as "If I have truly brought this fight on, I shall lead the van."

There are a few different quotes attributed to Peabody that morning. My personal favorite has him telling Prentiss that the battle was coming without his (Peabody's) assistance. True enough of course, whether he said it or not. I think that's the common element among all the different quotes. Peabody understood long before Prentiss that it was a general attack, and not simply a detachment stirred up by Peabody's patrol under Major Powell. That's the logical explanation for why Prentiss chewed him out. He didn't yet understand the true situation. The Confederates explained it to him soon enough, in a manner of speaking.

One thing I would love to know about Shiloh is actually from the night of the 6th into the 7th. I remember watching a documentary that stated that Union gun boats would bounce their artillery shells off of the bluff of the Tennessee river. It was on Battlefield Detectives at Shiloh. I can't seem to be able to purchase that episode so I'm not sure if it was debunked? Anyone with knowledge??

I believe Gen. Hills meant to say A. B. Hardcastle (Not Greencastle) at 5:20. Hardcastle was in charge of the 3rd Battalion MS Infantry, which was changed to the 3rd MS under BG S.A.M. Wood at the start of the battle. Wood is wounded, and command falls to Col. William K. Patterson. Thanks for the content, ABT!

They sent me the Eastern theater once I donated. Loved it and bought the Western theater shortly there after. Very good tool to understand the battles. If you read memoirs you literally can follow along with the soldier.

I understand my Great, Great Grandfather, !st Lt. Joseph Johnson Oliver of 21st MO Infantry Regiment, CO I, was wounded by friendly fire from panicky Federal troops of Tuttle's Brigade leaving the field. JJ's Brother-in-Law, Hudson Rice also wounded, but guided him by foot and a floating wood plank to the safety of Pittsburg Landing. The next day was dreadful for the 21st Missouri, at the Hornet's Nest. "All my hope is in GOD" the Fraser Clan Motto, am grateful..
