My ancestor, PVT John Warwick - Co H. 26th NC, survived the slugfest with the 24th Michigan on 01 JUL, rested on 02 JUL, and made the Pickett-Trimble- Pettigrew charge on 03 JUL....captured vicinity of the union line by the 12th NJ. Bravery and valor.

Outstanding content for Gettysburg 161! Wish I could be there on anniversary dates, but this is a close 2nd! In fact, I'm seeing aspects of the battle that I probably would not have seen had I been there, so .... Great videos! You guys and gals are fantastic!

Even with it being well covered ground there is so much to ponder and learn about the clash of armies July 1 - 3 (and the lead up to the battle and the aftermath that cost Meade overall command.) Fantastic job as always by the ABT and associated experts who provide such illuminating content.

17:35 - Col Douds discussed the landscape here in one of your videos a few years ago, and after seeing it, I visited and walked that section of the field and that was when I really GOT what the confederate soldiers were up against. But that first AHA! was thanks to Doug's explanation of it. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your Gettysburg 161 series. I love it. I’ve always had respect for what the soldiers sacrificed, but this video in particular painted a more vivid picture when showing the terrain features up close. I have an even deeper understanding of how terrible this attack was. Thanks for all you do. Great job by all!

I really like this presentation. I'm very happy you mentioned the Tennesseans and Alabamains in the mix with Armistead! (I had a relative in the 14th Tn. ) As you were mentioning this you panned across the 14th Conn. marker. Right in front of that is where the 14th Tn flag was captured. (Technically does that mean the Tennesseans got further than the Virginians?)

Question: is that the exact same rock wall as was present in the charge? Has it changed at all since the battle? Could we call the rocks, “witness rocks”? It seems as thought the height of the wall at the angle itself is quite minimal. So were the Union troops basically laying prone or kneeling to shoot?

The title, ‘Pickett’s Charge’, contains some slight humor, but it has been lost over the decades. A ‘picket' would never charge but served to warn of an enemy’s approach.

I’ve seen the maps and have a pretty good idea of the battlefield on July 3rd on paper but this video hasn’t gotten the terrain anywheres close to match with my mental bearings. Could have been any field anywhere in the US cause there was visually negligible vertical of a hill especially when the speaker kept switching directions as the battle played out. Sorry for the criticism but sometimes enthusiasm isn’t a replacement for competence. Hopefully this is constructive criticism.

Sorry, Doug, but your comment about Cushing being the last Civil War soldier to be awarded the Medal of Honor is no longer true. Two privates part of Andrew’s Raiders were just awarded the Medal of Honor this week.
