Just starting to research on truly waterproofing our basement. You can tell thus guy has seen it all and everything he says is backed up by logical explanations of how residential construction is susceptible to flooding. The next step is to find out where this company is and if they are not local, who does it like they do. What an amazing video! 👍👍

Their system is so small and easy to install that it can be done by anyone. So, they are able to pop up dealerships and train quickly throughout the country to sell it. Whoever buys into a dealership becomes an advocate dealer. When combined with saturated advertising they look like the only game in town. Unfortunately, it is too late for homeowners who buy into it because they were unable to find a real waterproofing solution in their area through all the saturated advertisement.

I appreciate your very thorough videos, I have a company similar to yours. It is about doing the basement waterproofing right, even if it takes more effort to achieve a totally dry basement. This big franchise companies are about making money and ability to make things very simple to replicate for their franchisee's and neglecting the real process of waterproofing. Foundation cracks must be injected with either polyurethane or epoxy or excavated on the outside with a proper waterproofing membrane.

seems like a really good landscaping job which slopes away from perimeter with thick poly underneath it would keep most water away from basement walls? then just keep a good dehumidifier in place
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems Жыл бұрын
They already have tons of external drainage, and dehumidifiers eat money by creating very large electric bills. We want to avoid them at all costs. Sometimes you can't. The owners of this house haven't seen a drop of water in their basement since our installation. No dehumidifier is required.

Dear American Dry Basements, thanks for your hard work, and these great videos. I was wondering, it doesn’t appear to me that you are using any kind of soil blocking landscape fabric for your drainage system… my I ask why not? Or if you are, what fabric do you have good experience with. Thanks.
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems Жыл бұрын
The soil in the northeast United States is typically Spodosols. It is a dense soil. Inside, not outside, the soil perks up clear water with very little slit in most areas. We never use landscaping fabric because fabric are filters that naturally clog, retarding the movement of water. That is one filter you can never change unless you want to jackhammer the floor again.

Can you recommend a company in East Tennessee that knows what they’re doing? We just spent $16 grand on waterproofing our exterior (4 French drains, we paid for 5) they did not dig down to the footers and half a$$ the sealing of cracks. The system failed in 8 months. We have a 1 year warranty and 3 year in system. We are asking for a refund. Another questions, what’s the best waterproofing system for monolithic foundation?

@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems Жыл бұрын
You can still install a interior drainage system that will reduce the hydrostatic pressure around the outside of your foundation. Our company will not be able to apply our Superslurry on the wall. If the wall has a crack or peeling paint consider sanding the paint off to apply the slurry.

Love this video. Do you answer questions I have some water leaking of my basement wall, and I'm wondering how can I seal it
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems 2 жыл бұрын
Don't use waterproofing paint unless you have a waterproofing system under your floor to keep the hydrostatic pressure down. Use Drylok hydraulic cement to plug leaks in the middle of the wall, stairs or window. It will be temporary until you find out why those leaks are occurring in the first place. If leaks are coming out from between the wall and floor then you will have to consider a waterproofing system to manage the water levels outside your walls.

@@AmericanDryBasementSystems I came here to ask a similar question. I don't have water in my basement, but the walls have efflorescence and flaking. It is an old home from 1930. Abovegrade is bloc but not sure if they poured lower half. I think it is all block that has had paint and coatings on it. I was going to wire brush the walls and seal them. Whole property and area is flat. I don't have a curb to pump water to if I wanted to install a sump pump (

Yes. Corrugated perforated pipe on a pitch is amazing. Self-cleaning because of the corrugation. You see the bigger brother used on highways and farmlands throughout the world. Cleanout tees are a waste of time and more costly to install.

I am trying to figure out not which system would be appropriate for my basement, but why the water started leaking in the first place. I bought a fixer upper two years ago, and the leak first appeared a few times sporadically, and for the last several weeks, it has been leaking constantly in this one corner. It appears that some sort of soft flexible material had been painted on, and it's now torn/old/flexible - I poked it to see what was going on there. Is the problem with a pipe that was installed last year (that leads to the drywall) or is it something else. IDK what to do next. UGH. All I know is that I want to solve this problem!
@AmericanDryBasementSystems

Unfortunately, this is something that can't be determined online. You have to get a plumber or a waterproofing pro to physically examine the location of the leak.

Is applying drylok to already painted concrete walls somewhat effective. I have high humidity in my house and my basement is getting waterproof with a French drain in two weeks
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems 2 жыл бұрын
Do not apply Drylok to painted walls. You have to sand off old paint to get full effectiveness.
@bradadam3924

Is there an easier way getting the paint off? I thought once the French drain was installed that would help lower the humidity levels in the house. I understand applying drylok over already painted walls won’t be as effective but wouldn’t it be better than nothing in controlling humidity
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems 2 жыл бұрын
There is no easy way to get paint off. An adequately installed french drain will lower the relative humidity dramatically to between 20 to no more than 40 percent. Over 50 percent will promote bacteria growth. Drylok will not help make humidity lower, and you can paint it over old paint, but it may not last as long.

Is the sump pump basin perforated so that it acts like the pipe itself allowing water in from the ground or is it solid? Would it matter where the sump pump basin is located? Example: Would it be better if it was located in a dryer section of the basement or where you have more water coming in? Thank you.
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is perforated. Placement depends on many factors which I can't go into in a KZfaq comment. I will consider making a video about it.

I feel like you're attacking a product in this video, but the really, the product never worked properly because as you've pointed out, it wasn't even close to being installed properly...in so many areas! So how can you say the product is inferior? What if it was installed properly?
@AmericanDryBasementSystems
@AmericanDryBasementSystems 10 ай бұрын
If you have a water problem in the basement and install this gutter-looking system, it only works when the water level is critical. Basically, your floor will be sitting in water. They sell special flooring to combat this defect. This system is inferior in every way.

They are primarily used in casting swimming pools and not designed for reconstruction or repair. The PSI maybe too high and you will find it next to impossible to access any subfloor pipe (sewage).
