A Dylan and Pretty Boy video. To the best of my knowledge, this was from an episode of the television program "Hullabaloo," broadcast on Monday, January 17, 1966, re-synced by me (to the best of my ability), in high-quality remastered audio. One of the best songs of the 1960s. "Five O'Clock" world was released in the U.S. in October 1965, peaking at number 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 on January 15, 1966.

Back when this song came out I was a flat busted kid working construction welding steel up in the sky from 7 am until 5 pm. I think I was making about $2/ hr. I'd leave the job site a 5 and the local radio station played this song just about everyday at that time. I'd head to the ballpark and earn another $20/game catching for a semi-pro team. I couldn't get tired and lived life wide open because with the war looming in the near future, who knew how much future there would be. I had a long- haired girl waiting for me and we've been married 53 years now. Survived a lot since then. Raised our kids and now have six grandkids. I still haven't retired and I work everyday. I do get tired though!

It could be my imagination, but it seemed to be more about talent and music quality then, than the focus on image & appearance which seemed to start with a trickle in the 1970s.
@americanmanhood
@americanmanhood 2 жыл бұрын
@@joefaller4525 I see what you're getting at, but one could make the argument that celebrities have always been concerned with their image, including but not limited to changing their names to make them sound less "ethnic," putting out that idea that everyone was happily married or at the very least heterosexual (going so far as to set up beards and sham marriages), that they were not only Anglo-Saxon protestants but also regular churchgoers, teetotalers, middle-class, average Joes, etc.; publicists and public relations people have been around for some time now. What they were trying to hide or emphasize has changed somewhat, although not altogether, and perhaps it is that starting in the 1970s they just began being less inconspicuous about it.

Despite being 40 years younger than this kind of music, I still like it better than the music that plays on the radio in today’s world. This music has a soul and actually took effort to produce. Nowadays music is just the same beat assembled by a robot, and lyrics that sound like a 5 year old wrote them.

I agree that music from this era is amazing, but I would disagree that all music today is robotic and juvenile, as you suggest. There is still amazing music being made, much of it by independent and alternative bands. It's out there, it just may take some time and patience to find it.

@@americanmanhood I have not listened to top 40 radio since the 90's. I'm aware of todays artist though. My example would be the band WILLIS. I heard a song years ago in an F.Y.E. store and asked who they were and it was a song by them. I then came on this platform and discovered them. I was surprised at the amount of views videos of their music had. I don't think they are mainstream but people must have discovered them. So yes there are ways of finding wonderful music a person might enjoy since it's all personal anyway. One just has to look, listen and find what they like and forget about what everyone else is listening to. When it comes to music it's You that matters and not everyone else and what is popular.

the vogues were nothing short of fantastic....when my cousin left for college in the fall of 66 he gave me permission to play his 45,s when i visited and i would always play this song as well as the Beatles,Stones,Kinks,Zombies it didnt matter it was all effin good.we would crank up the volume and dance our ass off!!! we moved to DC in early 67 but when i came in the summer there was a card with my name on it along with the Sgt Peppers album...best cousin ever!

This song has and always will be in a special, great place of its own. In its mono version or remastered (wow!) it's just a knockout.

Great timeless song. Probably was 6 or 7 years old when it came out. Those heavily reverbed "heys" background vocals really sound cool. It's a perfectly written perfectly arranged song.

Love that song. It reminds me of Sydney R&R Nov 1968. I loved the Aussie girls. They were so good to us, GIs.

Had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Blasko about 20 years ago when they were only playing Western Pa. he was a true gentleman signing autographs and having pics taken with him. Also got to see them on The Gateway Clipper for a Valentine's Day dinner. Super cool dudes.
