We had a request to check out Nightwish - Ghost Love Score, which apparently is one of the most reacted to performances. This video is from 10 years ago but we are just now hearing about them. Let us know what you think of Nightwish and if you’ve ever heard of them before.
Don’t forget, there’s a Super Thanks option if you’d like to leave us a tip since these videos often get demonetized. Thanks! 🖤🤘💩

"another Amy" ? sorry but Amy Lee can only dream of being anywhere close as good as Floor Jansen, I ve listened to both for 20yrs,btw NW is the most reacted to band on YT ever ,several vocal coach reactors have over 2 Million views just from a reaction to this song Ghost Love Score -which also the most reacted to song on YT, NW is well know all around the world except in N.America where the music media industry has either arrogantly ignored them or is ignorant of them,their focus is on the pop & hip hop garbage artist who cannot perform Live. This band with Floor is even better Live than in the studio, no auto tune. : ) cheers

@@nicod1361 I am not sure if you realize how combative and snobbish you are coming off here. Personally, I do not think that this is a good look for the fandom and it not the best way to represent NW. And while it can be objectively shown the Floor has more versatility than Amy, it does not mean that people will or should like her more. Music and art are subjective. We like what we like. There were people that did not like Elvis, Michael Jackson or the Beatles. Also, it could be argued that Dimash is even more versatile than Floor, but while he does extremely impressive things with his voice, I don't like how he interprets the emotions of a song. There are many artists with less vocal range and skill but who have an amazing ability to hit you in the feels. Again, we like what we like. There should be no need to feel threatened by a reactor who is comparing something they are just seeing for the first time, to something they happen to know and like. I get your passion here, but these are just opinions and everyone gets one.

@Tonia Elkins Nightwish is Finnish band but their singer Floor Jansen is not from Finland. She is Dutch. She had only been with nightwish for a couple of months at the time of this concert in 2013 and was still considered to be a 'temporary replacement singer' by Tuomas the leader of the band. He soon changed his mind :) Nightweish was always a popular band. but when Floor became their lead singer their popularity grew exponentially!!! She is considered by many to be one of the best singers in the world. Especially in this genre. Actually in this genre of symphonic metal the top female front singers are almost all Dutch (from The Netherlands) for some reason. Floor Jansen from Nightwish, Simone Simons from Epica, and Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation.

Hello Tonia Elkins (and your lovely daughter) ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. The greatest female vocalist to ever grace a stage. She isn't called the Valkyrie Goddess Queen of Metal for nothing. This song only showcases a small fraction of her divine singing power, you haven't seen nothing yet. 😉 Also the keyboardist (Toumas Holopainen) is the brains behind the band and writes 95% of the lyrics. He is often called the "Metal Mozart".

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 , I truly appreciate your opinion and it does show how tastes are different. Was wondering how you would rate Floor’s bands in order: AF, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, current solo? For me it goes Nightwish, Northward, Revamp, AF, Ayreon, then solo. But love them all.
@noneofyerbeeswax8194
@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Жыл бұрын
@@philipbaker5386 After Forever remains the pinnacle of her career - artistically, I mean, - and unlike most people, I think that Mark's departure was for the better. I'll take their last album over anything produced by any other female fronted band. Hell, I'll take it over any Dream Theater album! In the world of fairy-tale-ish power metal or gothic metal (or straight up pop metal, like Within Temptation), they were an unusual band, leaning more towards progressive metal. I think that's why they never became that popular. ReVamp is basically a continuation of AF with the emphasis on the heavy/prog side. Their second album is quite interesting - at first, it sounds like schizophrenic thrashing from start to finish but musically, there is a lot going on. It's more complex than most of what Nightwish or Epica have created. I'm trying hard to get into Ayreon and can't. This "space opera" concept works better live than when listening by yourself IMO. It's hard to keep track of all the characters and follow the storyline (which I absolutely don't care about because I'm not into science fiction). Northward feels like a project made just for fun and I think it's quite mediocre. I don't care much for Nightwish, I'm only here because Floor is with them. Her solo project... Oh, man... I think it's an abomination and a total disgrace for a metal Goddess like her. She will have my love and admiration forever, but she sure as hell lost a lot of my respect when she started doing it. And I fear that worse is yet to come.

You will hear about your Amy Lee comparison, but do not worry about it, take the comments as a joke. Nightwish fans are nice people, mostly. I'm glad you said you need to hear more to decide whether you really like Nightwish or not. The thing about Nightwish is that they have many different kinds of songs. From ballads to operatic, from folky, Celtic, to metal. The keyboardist writes 95% of their songs. "Nightwish Army general" Gabriel sends you info about Nightwish, including links to good quality Nightwish videos, with a short description of each song. Pick a song you think you might like. Of course you are going to get a ton of suggestions in the comments as well. Nightwish is best live, even though their official music videos are good as well. Greetings from Finland!

The comparisons to Amy Lee are common at first listen, but if you continue down the rabbit hole of Floor Jansen and Nightwish you will quickly realize that while Amy is a wonderful talented singer, Any further comparison falls by the wayside. Floor is just a vocal beast, so skilled in literally any genre..... Classically trained, she can sing in about 7 languages, perform Opera, theatre, metal, death metal, rock and pop with equal aplomb. We call her our Valkyrie Goddess..... she is a once in a lifetime vocal talent. Oh then there's Nightwish, ..... a band without equal in its use of complex theory and compositional structure. Both Nightwish and Floor (in her earlier band After Forever) date back to the mid 90's. I hope you will continue to react to the other songs of this concert, Wacken 2013, .... each will seem better than the last no matter what order, AND they are all different, unique and unpredictable. You will never tire of this band! Then on to other performances..... You'll be guided by many. Welcome the Nightwish Army!

Great reaction. Welcome to Nightwish. As others have mentioned, this was song 12 of 15 at this show. When I saw NW in concert, Ghost Love Score was the 2nd to last song, the last one being even longer at over 20 minutes. And yes, Floor Jansen (Yan-sen) can sing almost anything. Every Nightwish song is different and somehow better than the last. You have not even begun to scratch the surface. A score has a lot in common with a soundtrack, so that comment was very on point. Anyway, I really hope there is more to come. Please use Gabriel's list as a guide (he includes links to versions with good audio and video). If you want something energetic and catchy for the next song, go with Storytime, or if you want something a bit harder, go with Romanticide. @@ToniaElkins I agree T. - Most American reactors though seem to compare Floor Jansen and Nightwish to Amy Lee and Evanescence when they first hear "Ghost Love Score". Most of them have never heard of many world-famous European bands or bands from other parts of the world. Unfortunately, it is due to the short-sightedness of American music industry bosses, music producers and distributors and their decades-long focus only on their own artists. It is still very difficult for European bands that are extremely famous elsewhere in the world to get their music heard on American radio channels. Their music just isn't played. Not to mention TV shows or large concert stages in America. - Anyway, as the reactors continue with Nightwish's songs, they soon notice the difference between Floor Jansen and Amy Lee, or other similar singers whether they come from America, Europe or somewhere else. All the best.

Floor Jansen: half angel, half machine, all goddess, our Valkyrie queen This song is commonly suggested as an introduction to Nightwish because it is relatively easy to digest as a first time listen. As you progress down the rabbit hole you will realise just how damn special they really are. Gabriel Bardac's list is a good template to follow. Great reaction. Peace and hugs from Wales UK

Nightwish Army (UK) incoming Greetings from UK 😁 Thank you for taking the time to react to my favourite group. As others have told you already virtually every song they have is different. This song is more of an introduction to Symphonic Metal as a genre, it shows how orchestral instruments can be included with guitars, drums etc to make a fuller richer, more epic sound Gabriel's list gives a couple word synopsis of each song on his list so you can see what type of song it is, will it will be heavy or a ballad or more operatic in style I do hope that you both find some songs that you like. I have subscribed so that I can see any future reactions😊

@@ToniaElkins There's no hate about comparing Nightwish to Evanescence, it's just funny for a number of reasons. These bands belong to completely different genres: Nightwish were created earlier and are one of the founders of the symphonic metal genre, and Evanescence is more of an alternative rock that existed before them, so in terms of influence on international musical culture, Nightwish have a much greater reputation (but not in the USA :-) ). And of course, it is somewhat upsetting that although many excellent and popular heavy bands with talented female singers have appeared in the world over the past 25 years, nevertheless, Americans know mostly only Amy Lee. For some reason, female fronted heavy music doesn't take root very well in the USA, which is strange for a country where there is so much talk about gender equality. 🤷‍♂
@Lunzatis_Palemoon
@Lunzatis_Palemoon Жыл бұрын
@@SokolRock I think female fronted heavy music bands not taking root has more to do with the American Music Industry than Americans themselves. The American Music Industry has a bad tendency to box in female vocalists into a handful of genres or try to force them to be like another female artist. A great example of that is Nova Rockefeller, a female rapper who use to be signed to Def Jam. They wanted to make her into a rap version of Britney Spears. I think Evanescence might have been the American Music Industry's attempt at copying Nightwish when Tarja was the lead singer. It wouldn't be the first time the American Music Industry has done that.
@Lunzatis_Palemoon
@Lunzatis_Palemoon Жыл бұрын
@@ToniaElkins I can understand why you compared Amy Lee to Floor Jansen because it's the closest comparison you have so I can't blame you for that. I CAN, however, blame the American Music Industry for that, and I blame them for the reasons mentioned in the other post to Andrey Sokol. Now, that being said, comparing Amy Lee to Floor Jansen is like comparing cheap wine to Chardonnay. Amy Lee is a good singer but she is nowhere near Floor Jansen's level in regards to vocal control, vocal range, breath control, and versatility. Floor is easily one of the best female vocalists today. If you want to see her range and versatility I would highly suggest reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers, specifically the songs "Shallow" and "Phantom of the Opera."
@ToniaElkins

@@Lunzatis_Palemoon You aren’t completely wrong about the American music industry. However we’ve had loads of amazing female bands since the 80s! Some that maybe only Americans know. So it would be hard for anyone outside the states to know that which is why they think the way they do. As far as Amy copying Nightwish, Evanescence was a band before Nightwish was. And there’s so many comments talking about Floor being the better singer. I don’t agree with that however I don’t care about people being perfect singers and who has a better voice etc. For us it’s about what band, singer, music, lyrics speak to us. Liking a band isn’t about the singer being great, it’s about us enjoying everything about them. Someone we can connect to and relate to. So we will naturally gravitate towards what we enjoyed more over who sang better. 😊🤘

Oh yes I've heard of them before, I'm from Finland where the band has an origin. You haven't heard of them cause US record labels don't play music outside of US or Canada. There is hundreds of bands in Europe that could break in US if they change their policies but it's all about you if you start to demand good music, they will hear you. USA is too much focused in pop culture so they wouldn't focus on the great music, it's all about commercials.

Well that’s actually 100% completely false. We listen to ALL kinds of great music in the US from everywhere in the world! If you’ve never been here then how would you know? 2 of my favorite bands in high school were Australian. So your claim is wrong. I love how people hate on the US without actually knowing ANYTHING about the US that’s real. All foreigners know is what they see on TV. TV is fake. Don’t be so quick to judge an entire country. You know that Hollywood is a teeny tiny portion of this country. I’ve never even been to LA and don’t care to. The rest of us are nothing like Hollywood.

@@ToniaElkins What makes you think that someone hates the USA population? This image is completely foreign to me as a European. The only thing we find strange is the comparison with other singers. Everyone and every band is an individual - so it's not nice to compare them. And why do you think that we know impressions only from TV? Apart from the fact that TV is not very important in Europe. It's much more the case that many Europeans are in the USA at least temporarily on business - and you learn a lot about the locals. For example, you hardly hear any European bands. Almost everything is American. It's a bit like if we want to listen to country music here in Europe - that's already difficult. Even if I take it from your comments that you assume a bit of an enemy image if someone is not from the USA, I can assure you that we Europeans don't think that way - I even think that here again. Nothern New England Division reporting. Welcome to the beautiful world of symphonic metal, the glorious mash up of symphonic composition, orchestral instruments, and heavy metal. As a fellow American I get the Amy Lee/Evanescence connection and while our non-American Nightwish fans used to get a little put off by it but most now take pity on us that because of our ignorance of music that doesn't originate in the US that Evanescence is the only thing we have to relate to. Discovering Nightwish over 3 years ago opened a whole new world of music from outside of the US for me. Music that is deep, sometimes complex, often beautiful and uplifting, and sometimes forces me to think about deep subjects in a meaningful way. I hardly ever listen to American music anymore since most of it is vapid and with little redeeming value. Try listening to a few more of their songs and see if they grow on you. They do have a lot of variety and over a 20 year career they have evolved musically. Ghost Love Score is one of their top 3 songs for me and more of a journey song. They also have more mainstream structure songs. Peruse Gabriel's list. He does include short descriptions of songs and will help find songs that may be more to your liking. I Want My Tears Back live from Wacken or live from Buenos Aries in 2018 might be a good next stop or perhaps a ballad, Sleeping Sun, live from Tampere in 2015 or Masters of Rock in 2016.

Also you might want to check some of Floor's solo stuff. She has a solo album that is coming out next month and has dropped 4 videos (Fire, Storm, Me Without You, Invincible) from the album with another being released Friday. More mainstream in sound. Also her cover's she recorded from her home studio on her YT channel during the lockdown (Alone, Let It Go from Frozen, Oblivion from the movie of the same name) or her performances from 2019 Beste Zangers Dutch TV singing show (her cover of Shallow is stunning and her Phantom of the Opera duet with Henk Poort (famous Dutch musical theater singer) is just gorgeous).

Nightwish has been around for 20+ years and still going strong even when they have changed vocals and other members. Nightwish is always often compared to Evancescence but let make this clear Evancescence is no Nightwish, I don't put Evancescence as a metal band, maybe hard rock or Alternative rock. I understand the compare due to lead vocals are both females but Nightwish has been around way before Evancescence. Hi Tonia. I have been reading the comments and your replies with interest. I suppose it's a bit like supporting your favourite sports team, you don't like seeing/hearing anything said against your team or reading more favourable comments about someone else's favourite team - that's part of the passion of being a supporter. In Europe we have a wide range of music to access, but it is still very restricted to commercial pop/rap and we have to search for the metal genre. Metal is very popular in Scandinavian & Nordic countries, in Finland it is quite mainstream. Once found, it is easy to find a wide range of artists in this genre. In the USA you are restricted to Metallica & Evanescence and a few others. People have become attuned to their sound so listening to metal/symphonic metal bands for the first time will therefore remind people of these 2 groups. Metal, mainly in Europe, is still pushing the boundaries of quality music, lyrics and singing. No lip syncing, computer generated beats, or silly background dancers! Floor Jansen is among the very best, if not the best, singer in the world. Today's pop princesses can only dream of having a fraction of her or many metal singers' abilities. It is fair to say that it can take a few listens to appreciate metal so it needs perseverance, the rewards are well worth it !

When I first started to listen to Nightwish some 20 years ago, I'd been listening to prog for years. I feel that at least some symphonic metal is closely related to prog and in both cases things like odd time signatures and very dynamic structure are common (I'd say to some extent genre defining). Sometimes sounding like several songs in one is part of that package, but the same could be said about some classical music, too. IMO, Floor is a particularly good fit for a band such as Nightwish - dynamic music definitely benefits from a dynamic vocalist! Thanks for the reaction!

@@ToniaElkins Well Tonia, I can only say, Nightwish fans are very loyal and most are in Europe. As far as what you said I was just mentioning what I heard you say. At least you know I'm paying attention 😊 It didn't really matter in the end. Floor is Dutch, songs in a Finish band, lives out on a farm in Sweden. And I'm more a Floor fan first and foremost. Master of her considerable instrument. I do hope you'll sample some of her solo projects if only for your personal pleasure. Regards.

Our country is so devoid of any real, good music. Thanks for confirmation. You now know who the most powerful voice on this planet is. The Alpha.

I personally think "Everdream" is a much better and more appealing song and performance. I suspect you weren't totally thrilled with this one, but I bet you would be with that one.

Hello ladies. Nightwish Army Phoenix here for you. You have just scratched the surface of this Nightwish rabbit hole. Our 6'1" Valkyrie goddess, Floor Jansen, and the rest of the Nightwish band create every song that is so different from the others. I highly recommend that you read all of Gabriel Bardac's comment and follow his link to Gabriel's List of other amazing Nightwish live performances. If so, I will see you back here again. Thank you for this reaction.

Greetings from Helsinki, Finland. Thx for a good reaction video. Nightwish is older band than Evanescence. I saw Nightwish first time live at 2001. 🤘Stay heavy ladies!

This song was written for the first singer of the band and Floor is the third. The 1st singer's name is Tarja Turunen in the late 90's. 82,000 strong. Welcome to The Goddess of Metal. There's two songs left.

This song will definitely take a few listens to warm up to and really appreciate before it becomes something you'd go back and listen to with deliberate intent ; but once all those complex structures become more familiar and easy to anticipate (like a common hook or riff of a simpler song), you'll be all in. That's how it was for me with this track, and I've been listening to metal and symphonic metal for decades (meaning most new stuff I hear is usually pretty quick to be determined if I like it or not ; but this one took a little time). I wasn't sure I would end up liking this song all that much, but with every reaction video, the earworm got in and took root.

An honest, positive reaction to my favourite band, but...are you sharing ear buds? I really don't know how you can listen to stereo music in one ear! If you wore a set of ear buds each, you would get the full stereoscopic mix of the music as intended, not just a single channel.
