I went to Kenya 1st time in 2013. I didn't think I would like it because I didn't know much about Kenya. I ended up loving it and returned 3 more times afterward. Fell in love with the culture, the land, food, and the people are very kind. Im from Massachusetts and well traveled, but Kenya will always be the best country I've ever gone to🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪

I think Americans need to STOP with the expectation that when they travel they should find foods and conveniences as they do in America. And the typical American "we are better/we have bigger" comparisons etc etc is so immature! You travel to experience difference, NOT to find what you left in your cozy place, otherwise stay there! Black Americans are typical AMERICANS who just happen to have melanin. But other nationalities easily relate well with African countries and their cultures without all the "competitive comparisons" and immerse themselves and adapt to the society. Sure one will miss sone aspects of home, even Kenyans deeply miss Kenya when in the USA.

It's interesting that you think Black Americans have this "competitive comparison" against other Africans, but from my experience, that's not the case. Those other cultures don't assimilate into your culture, they create their own space to cater strictly to their people/culture in your country. What I see in places like Nairobi, is you all subconsciously implement tribalism against other melanated and if you know that melanated person is not from your tribe, then you all looked down on them. Kenyans are notorious for kissing up to Chinese, Arabs, and European people. And if you want to keep it real, many of you all are jealous of the wealth that we Black Americans have because you can't understand how someone you think you are culturally better than has more money than you and more than the people you worship from other countries. In America, we call that having a "house negro" mentality. Between nepotism and tribalism, you all treat non-melanated people better than your fellow Kenyan, so why would a Black American expect to bond you all?

I think his video is for North Americans, I didn’t sense any “we are better” tone in what he said, just his experience and his views as an American. You may not know but North Americans are just not well travelled like Europeans for ex. So this is just his opinion!

I realize.... I loved Nairobi, really really loved it. I'm Haitian American, and despite the current president's sell out status to lots, the people are great, the food is great. As a traveler and Haitian born, I have a world stomach. In fact, I get sick at restaurants and prefer local foods from anywhere, the street, a shack, whatever. I'll be going back there sometime either later this year or next year. Spent three months there and I think Coop and I were at the same place the same day, at Nelishe (Kikao, in Lavington). I was there earlier for breakfast, you came later. I saw the video a week after (earlier this year).

As Tanzanian Nairobi was our Europe, our Vegas ... its amazing place, people are genuinely friendly, we use to have a lot of fun in Nairobi and Mombasa... i visited 2022 Nairobi has become a brothel for Nigerians, i was so upset when i witnessed these guys abused young women , treat them nasty, taking their kindness and their poverty as advantage to treat them like wild animals, i was in BnB in Kilimani and i had to leave ealry because of the activities of these guys next door.

For the American stomach I think it’s may be adjustment? I went to Uni in America and the first time I ate the food in America my stomach suffered. Then when I came back home to Kenya same thing... It happened from both switch ups every time. Even when I came back during the short break holidays and when I would go back… It eventually adjusts 😅 That was from 2005 - 2010

Obviously you haven’t been to Africa to make that kind of assumption because that is a LIE! I see more black Americans mingling with the culture than I see white Americans. As a Kenyan we kinda do relate to other people more than black Americans, Europeans which mostly visit Kenya tend to be polite, easy going and try to blend in while most black Americans are haughty and are too much. Most white Americans that visit are the conservative type, and are similar to the Europeans that visit. As a Kenyan I care very little for your skin colour, just your character.

I also think Europeans that visit are genuinely interested and are not coming due to push factors. Thats why you will hear a European tourist pronouncing names the way they should be pronounced or at least trying. Many will try to learn swahili even if they are visiting for a short period. A waiter told me that Europeans will read your name tag, call you with your name, not complain about the cost and tip you and appreciate your effort.
