This really applies to the typical you know what, funny yes but sadly true. give me Hitler instead of a .. any day. The significantly lesser of two sorts of monsters, bet Hitler was a respectfully quiet neighbour and would've abhorred the long armed noisies too.

Brendan Grace (Father Fintan Stack) was one of my earliest comedy heroes. When I first met him aged 10, my mother remarked how I loved to make people laugh by telling jokes. Brendan looked at me and said “Well one day I might be in the audience enjoying your performances!” While this never happened, the fact he took a few minutes out to inspire a young kid is the reason I will forever love the man. Like all of us across Ireland I was devastated when he died. Thanks For The Memories Brendan.

Funny how things don’t always translate in the US. Fintan Stack is legendary in the UK / Ireland, and after Bishop Brennan is probably everyone’s favourite guest character. Brendan Grace, who played him, was a very famous Irish comedian. When he died, thousands of fans lined the streets along the procession and outside the church where his funeral took place. Interestingly, when he got the role of Father Stack, the original plan was for him to be an even more foul mouthed, aggressive, shoutier version of Father Jack. Grace decided against that and played him as quietly spoken, and almost effeminate, which succeeded in making him even more sinister than was probably originally intended!

Brendan Grace (Fr. Stack), was a good singer who - like Billy Connolly - morphed from humorous songs to standup. He was amused/exasperated that he became internationally more famous for about 8 minutes in one episode of 'Father Ted' than for 45 years of club and stage performance.

@carlhartwell7978 Жыл бұрын
@@vallee3140 Honestly, I was 'just' after those days, (born in 78) so my family must have gotten a colour set before my memory of only BW... of course up until at least the early 90's there was always a spare 12" odd BW set hanging around which was _sometimes_ needed if there was something you HAD to watch but noone else had any interest in! Snooker was relatively popular in my house though. So fortunately I don't recall having to watch it on BW! But having said ALL that, I never ever scoff at watching BW film and TV though, I go right back to the very early days and am happy to enjoy it all... Very fond memories of literally rolling on the floor watching Norman Wisdom with my Mum at around 6. 🤣 Probably on a 20" colour TV (not something to be sniffed at back in the mid 80's)! Not that that made any difference with many of his films! But then there are also so so many dramatic performaces that are literally unmissable (IMO) that can ONLY be seen in low res BW, Gregory Peck's performance as Atticus Finch among others in To Kill a Mocking Bird, 12 Angry Men, King Kong and Gaslight among so so many more. It's something of a bugbear of mine that so many great performances/stories/visual art (and indeed audio art) is simply _passed off_ by younger people simply because of the technological restrictions at the time. But maybe it happens no less often nowadays than it did in my own generation or even generations earlier. Hard to tell. I just love art, maybe that's the distinguishing factor, some love 'it' for 'it', some just love its popularity... I might have gone off topic slightly there!

I loved listening to football on the radio as a kid. In fact, I still do. 😂 The noise of the crowd comes through more over radio and, because they're having to describe things in more detail, I enjoy the analysis more. Golf on the radio though? That's a whole new level. 😂😂 I had a neighbour who would play jungle on a boom box into the night so this episode is nostalgic to me. Oh, also, given how much you like comedic violence, you really should watch the whole of Bottom.

You did it again Boomer, you cut off too soon and missed the final, post credits, gag. This is a trademark of Graham Linehan comedies (this and IT Crowd). Stick around till the very end as he sometimes has a little extra laugh up his sleeve. Also, if you pause, run back 10 seconds rather than picking up where you left off. You missed the impact of two punchlines because you cut the gag in the middle and didn't do a short recap.
