Americans React To Best AFL Marks in History
AFL is one sport I really want to explore, it is that time of the year to enjoy some Australian Football League but these catches are truly impressive in its own world, they show the true athletics of an AFL athlete.

Mark = Ball kicked (not hand passed) + travels more than 15m over the ground + not touched by any other player + catch with control of the ball (even if for just half a second). Its the combination of these that makes a mark more than just a catch. Taking a mark means a free kick is awarded to the player who caught the ball, at the position the catch was completed.

That one at 4:20 won mark of the year. Liam Ryan sprinted from midfield to the forward line and then outmarked a man nearly a foot taller than him. He's known as 'Flyin' Ryan' for his love of taking hangers like this over players taller than him. He's around 5'9 so considered 'small' in the AFL.

AFL is the biggest football code in Australia, way more popular than rugby league. No gloves and sticky spray here just clean marks. It would be regarded as cheating in Australian sports to use sticky spray unlike the NFL 😊 baseball to cheats you use a glove it's way more easier to catch a ball with a big glove with sticky spray (very common in American sports. Watch cricket catches no glove way harder so way more spectacular.

@@jameshammill4624 That's got nothing to do with popularity, that's the stadium size. With that logic, you're saying that AFL is more popular than NBA which is laughable. Last year, the NRL was Australia's most watched sport, with 171.8 million across the season. The AFL was around 141 million for comparison. This is in both leagues annual report btw. NRL also have a higher social media following. Regarding memberships, that is an AFL specific thing which the NRL has only adapted in the last decade. But even then its silly. Apparently the Giants offered free memberships to kids who did Auskick so now the numbers are all blurred. Also to add on this, NRL has never needed the revenue from memberships as the AFL did, as the NRL make plenty of money from their leagues clubs. Penrith are the richest team in the country. I like both sports, so i regard both sports as our national game. It just depends what state you're brought up in.
