You can get a Chinese visa from any city that has a Chinese embassy/consulate, but you need to be a resident of the country in which you apply. You can be either a citizen, a permanent resident, or a temporary resident on a long-term visa (like work or study etc) of that country. In Sydney the turnaround is 4 days from visiting the consulate to getting the passport back with the visa attached, but it can be escalated to 2 days if paying a priority fee, I don't know how much though

If you go to China in the fall, it is recommended to arrange it in mid-September, when students have already started school and the National Day has not yet arrived, so the journey will not be crowded. In other words, before September and early October are not good times🤹

you can get an agent to get the Visa for you, usually the cost is a little bit over $200.

If you go to China from middle of October to middle of November, Beijing is recommended, best weather in Beijing during the year, cool but not cold, ancient buildings，autumn trees，very vintage, the great wall and forbidden city are classic travelling spots of course, but remember to book the tickets in advance. Besides this one specific Autumn month, Shanghai will be always the most comfortable city for beginners to China. Enjoy your travelling and welcome to China❤

China has only two truly top-tier cities: Shanghai and Beijing. Shenzhen and Guangzhou are far below these two in status. Shanghai's skyline, environment, level of internationalization, and luxury far surpass those of Guangzhou. Guangzhou's urban appearance is just average by Chinese standards, while Shanghai's skyline can easily be considered among the top three in the world. Additionally, Shanghai's per capita income is significantly higher than that of Guangzhou.
