Liverpool fans have extra reason to hate her because of of the events of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 when 96 Liverpool fans died in a human crush in a stadium in Sheffield. In reality, the police let far too many people into the stadium and the overcrowding resulted in so many deaths and hundreds of serious injuries but given that this was at the height of football hooliganism, the police and Thatcher spun it as being directly as a result of the drunkenness of the crowd. It took until 2017 for the police in charge to finally be charged for their actions; both for the negligence that led to the event, and then the shameless cover up that followed.

Her policies had a detrimental effect on many working class people and caused a lot of civil unrest at the time, riots etc. She also took a hard line against football hooligans during that period, which was way out of control during that period. The 80's / early 90s was a tough time for Britain and the British people.
