You dont need to have a chiseled body in order to enter in any bloco. Brazilians wont judge you.

To be fair, you can enjoy a full day of Carnaval with waaay less then 40$...

one thing that most of people who react to carnival get it wrong: it's not just Rio de Janeiro!! Brazil is huge and there's a lot of cities with parties that most people would prefeer. Rio and Salvador are the 2 most popular (salvador is a lot crazier than Rio and is not for amateurs), but São Paulo, Recife/Olinda, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Floripa have such good street parties in carnival.

You can wear the costume you prefer, the recommendation to wear little clothing is because carnival takes place in February and it's summer in Rio. In this case, too much clothing, all day, in the heat, can make you feel sick. And nowadays there are carnival blocks (street parades) of various kinds. There's even a geek culture block lol.

7:16 I don't feel great talking about it, because we all deserve to be treated with respect, Yada Yada Yada... BUT, being from São Paulo, I can say that people make out a loooot at carnival parties. And there is a lot of women and men (not all!!!) searching for gringos, so basically if you're not Brazilian you already gained some points. It is so bizarre that some Brazilians even *pretend* to be gringos and hit on women speaking English just to have some advantage. Yeah, I'm not a fan of this behavior but I thought you should know. Again: I'm not speaking for all people, or for an specific gender. It's just something I've seen on São Paulo's street carnival.
