Americans Try Sinigang for the First Time in the Philippines 🇵🇭

Today we americans are trying sinigang for the first time in the Philippines! We go to SM North in Quezon City with ‪@filipinoboo‬ and explore some more filipino foods that we have yet to try! We get the famous filipino dish sinigang along with butter shrimp and a more unknown filipino food, taro leaves!
We met up with a fellow vlogger for today's video and headed in to SM North without a plan. We walked around the mall and tried some delicious self-serve yogurt before he showed us a food court in the mall the we didn't even know existed. We sat at a table, ate some food, and got to know each other for a few ours. More adventures with FilipinoBoo coming soon!

Fun facts Sinigang was awarded the best soup in the world by TasteAtlas 2 consecutive times (2020 & 2021). Laing (taro leaves dish) came from the Bicol region. This region's delicacy is famous for coconut-based and spicy food. The key ingredient of the taro leaves' tastiness came from the coconut milk. My mom is a bicolano and my favorite food is her Laing & Bicol Express.

Wow. Nice. You met with Filipino Boo. I already watch his video with you guys. Fun fact: before you met, i hear him before on one of his vlog, he is talking about you. Sinigang was actually voted in Taste Atlas as the best vegetable soup in the world in 2020 and best soup in the world overall in 2021.

I suddenly miss living in Quezon City. I left for Canada last year and seeing this vlog made me reminisce good old days at SM North. I even saw where I usually park when I drive going to the mall. SM North is where I usually hang out with family and friends. Thank you guys for this vlog! I miss Philippines, my home!

There are other restaurants that serves best tasting Sinigang. Even in Gerry's Grill, their pork and shrimp Sinigang is very tasty. Filipinos usually have a fish sauce with red hot chilis on it and lime as a dipping sauce for the Sinigang. I thought you guys went to Baguio? 😊

My favorite is Sopas (Spanish for soup), Philippine chicken soup. Taro is elephant ears, we harvest leaves, corms and stems. Pak Bet a staple, every veggie in garden especially including ichiban eggplant, ampalaya (bitter melon). 100 million people in PI, 100 million pancit recipes. Downsides fish with heads on, rotten fish sauce in everything, cooking dried fish smells like carrion. Lechon roast pig OMG delicious.

Sinigang one of the famous dishes here in the Philippines we put tamarind soup base for the sour taste..

Kangkong /water spinach, sinigang (is a sour based soup) usually with the fruit of tamarind to make that sour taste, sinigang can be pork, beef, fish, chicken or shrimp. Laing is usually a bicolanos food, made from taro leaves with coconut cream, lots of chili (the original recipe).

You boys are hilarious and entertaining. I'm from Bicol and that's where you'll get the best laing dish (taro leaves cooked in coconut, shrimp paste, pork or chicken and libas leaves that gives an extract lime kick). Laing can be cooked spicy or non spicy. The best way to eat sinigang is to pour the soup on rice and eat it with meat and laing together. Yummy! As you navigate your way to eating the various Filipino dishes, you will get an acquired taste and then, you will learn the best way to eat a certain dish in combination with other dishes. Kudos to both of you for your sense of adventure when it comes to trying Filipino food.

Sinigang is an acquired, some people don’t like the first time, but if you eat more than once you get hooked on it. Filipino American kid’s favorite food. My older daughter like Bulalo while my youngest daughter loves Sinigang, she like it extra sour.

You should have asked for three smaller bowls and divided that order of sinigang into three parts. Need to do that with any dish with soup like bulalo, nilaga etc.
