@@bud6575 I've never had a Rottie, but from what I've seen, I would say yes. The CCs need to know their place in the pack or THEY will quickly become alpha. They are super intelligent, loyal, and fun to be with. They MUST be socialized ! We made the mistake of not doing so to the degree she needed. (We had recently lost a rescue dog to parvo and I was afraid to bring this puppy close to any dogs). Yes we worked through a lot of it. All this to say they are great dogs, need to be handled, worked, trained, and loved. Many slobber and drool like crazy and it gets worse as they age. My girl was 3 months when we got her, and is 10.5 years old now. Absolutely not saying to go with a cut ear dog or not, however, her ears are cut and she had never had an ear problem. My Pit's ears are natural and she deals with more ear problems. Wish u the very best.

I had Cane Corso. She loved my young daughter so much. One day while they were playing in the back yard, I was in the kitchen. I heard my daughter yell scaredly and Bella barked then growled and I heard a yelp. I ran to the back yard to find Bella with another dog's (pit bull) left shoulder in her mouth. The pit bull jumped my fence and Bella obviously immediately intervened and bit into the pit bull and ripped her left leg off. Bella was 20 months and 118 pounds full of LOVE for my little girl.

@@tracyjohnson5023 I don’t know about all of that. My dog is a real farm dog that I bought from an Amish family because they use theirs as working dogs also. Most people get dogs as companions because they can’t find a mate or don’t like their spouse. Every time I have a dog, he or she has a use, as well as being a friend to watch my back and I watch his. Dogs need an activity or they won’t be any good most of the time. My dog has acres and acres to run around and he keeps the coyotes out of the pasture for our family estate. Haven’t lost a calf since he’s been around. He’s 165 pounds of teddy bear with a little bit of grizzly bear to go with it for the coyotes.

That statement is made about a lot of dogs because people don't train themselves before they get the dog. Most people buy a dog and then figure things out later you can't do it with a lot of breeds. If you train read research and know what you're doing you can get that dog
@canecorsomom2023
@canecorsomom2023 Жыл бұрын
They require a firm but loving owner. They are highly sensitive and a lot of the usual training techniques won't work with a corso. They require more time than say a lab or your average family dog. They have really specific exercise needs and diet requirements. And because of their rise in popularity, they are being bred for looks and a quick buck instead of temperament. We had to go through quite a process to get our corso. Her breeder was very picky about where their puppies went. 5 min worth of research on corsos will tell you exactly why they aren't for everyone. If ypu do your due diligence and work with your dog you can have an amazing animal. But most people won't do more than watch KZfaq shorts.

I'm someone who works with dogs, and it's an important note that just because you love a breed doesn't make them right for you. This is an example of someone who knew what he was getting into, and has the ability and dedication to deal with this dog, alongside it being his breed of choice. I know many people who love certain breeds, get them, and can't handle them (mostly looking at huskies and Malinois, but my sister got in over her head with a simple lab mix) Make sure you get a dog that is the right fit for your home and life, not just the one you love the most My favorite breed is dobermans. I get so excited whenever I get to work with them, they're so sharp and focused that they almost seem to read the commands from your posture before you can say or do anything. As much as I love them, though, I do not have one. I have some joint and mobility issues, so I cannot keep up with the exercise and socialization needs a doberman has. I have a Rottweiler mix and he is wonderful, truly intuitive and wonderful at problem solving, he's been able to figure out any trick/task I've put in front of him, but I've been considering a Cane Corso as my next dog after him because my pup has some serious problems with hyper-focusing because of his Rottweiler instincts for livestock guarding. He has to be aware of everything around him and it makes it really hard to regain his focus, even with high-value rewards, because it's in his blood to search the surroundings and keep an eye on anything suspicious. He is also very skittish, very "all bark no bite" and so it can get me into trouble if he bolts away from something on leash. I've done tons of confidence work with him, but if something surprises him he's unreachable again.

This issue you have with your rottie mix would NOT be any better for a CC lol. If ur struggling with rot mix I'd suggest not getting corso. I've had both and my cc trainer breeds Rottweilers... corsos are stronger and just as prey driven, and Guarding instincts are, if anything, more intense!

In Serbia Cane Corso is popular. My friend had a monster of a dog called Aaron. He was so big, much bigger than your boy. So beautiful and so well trained. Every day he made sure Aaron got literally hours and hours of dedication, he spent lots of money on specialised diets and everything. Unfortunately because if his size he had a heart attack during his 4th year. We were all so devastated when we found out. that dog was so much loved. But your right, without training he could have easily turned into a real physical problem. They are definitely for very dedicated and mature owners.

You should need a special permit or required training to own dogs like these so people can’t just buy them because they’re “cool”

@@wrecker402 Some breeds could follow every command (like Malinois), some are independent and make their own choices (your LGD breeds). I'd say the latter are very intelligent, just not trainable. It all depends on your wants and needs. But once you have figured out what you need, you have to look at breeds/lines that are still selected for the job and not for shows. For me it's just that I don't have the time and need for a protection dog right now.

32 years ago as a student of National K-9 in Columbus Ohio, I saw my first Cane Corse, I bought my first two Corsos a year ago. For 31 years I took everyone’s “throw away” problem dogs of whatever breading and turned them all into the best dogs my family could’ve ever asked for, but last year I decided I wanted what I had waited 32 years for, and I love my Corsos.

Cane Corsos are amazing if you train them and socialize them early in life. My friend got one as a family dog for his wife and kids and had to give him up because he was way too aggressive toward strangers and even close extended family and friends who would come over for dinner. That dog did NOT get along with ANYONE except the family that lived in that home. Friends of the children were terrified to come over after having one experience with that dog. He felt he owned that entire family and house. Now, my friend was a lazy and ignorant dog owner and never did one day of training with him and would refuse even when I recommended doing it. So that dog was never socialized and was never trained. Just a wild cane corso living in a human house. After getting rid of that dog, he got another cane corso who was a complete love bug and loved all strangers and wanted to just play ball with everyone. That dog had very minor training but my friend bought an ecollar on amazon and began shocking him like crazy every time he would do anything my friend even remotely didn’t want and so his new cane corso became timid and weak and depressed and eventually he was frustrated with the new dog for not being protective enough and got rid of that one too. I call him a friend but really it was more just someone I grew up with because I find nearly all of his behaviors and the way he lives appalling personally but I learned a lot being around him, mostly how NOT to live. If you get a serious protective working dog, you have to understand what you’re getting and make sure you have the finances to hire a PROFESSIONAL dog trainer (not the damn petsmart trainers) to work your dog regularly from the time you get them. You can find these trainers on youtube and instagram by searching #protectiondog or #protectionwork etc. and just message them. Hope this helps someone.

I learned a lot about dogs in general, and about Cane Corsos in particular, from Senza Tempo Cane Corso. It used to be that just seeing all those huge dogs running free in her yard, would twist me up in fear (I am not a dog person) but watching Rachel's vids for the better part of 3 years has shown me that Cane Corsos in the care of someone who knows what she's doing, are wonderful dogs. Garrett, I really love what you have produced in Thanos. He's a beautiful animal, in all respects. Kudos.

I was raised with Bullmastiffs. Dad got a rescue Corso in 2008, since he's had 3 females. I've never owned my own dog, I found a fawn tall Flying ears/cropped tail Cane Corso male at 13 months old. He is a great companion, slipped into guard dog without training, all 4 of them just know their role, the training is disarming them on command in my experience and he does disarm on command. He does not like it when I'm disappointed in him, avoids it. He will wake me up at 2 am because he heard or smelled something, wakes me up to grab the Mossberg 590 or Beretta M9 to check it out. All false alarms but thats OK. Good boy Rocco.
