Thanks so so much for this very insightful video! I am a self-made artist (beginner) and I appreciate all the help that I can get. I used to have no interest in watercolor, until I actually started painting botanicals ...I love it! watercolor is amazing! Thanks for sharing this invaluable information from Mr John Salmine! Now I want to paint Urban Landscapes.

It was only by chance that I seen this demo and was glued to the presentation through to the end. What a great teacher. I loved the explanations as he introduced each method he was using in the painting. Excellent!

This is my first time watching an American Watercolor Society video and my first time seeing John Salminen give a demo. He is obviously a fantastic artist, but he’s funny too and very generous by sharing his techniques. He reminds me of Lauren McCracken, whom I adore, the way he shares information about his specific tools, brands, and techniques. I have used the Bob Ross wispy dry brush technique on clouds using oil paints and it really does work. Now I’m definitely going to have to try it with watercolor. I started painting in oils and it really is easier than watercolor for the very reason John mentioned; if you mess it up, you can just paint over it. You really do have to plan ahead for watercolor. I love that he reminds us to vary the colors as we paint. I’m subscribing.

My mother’s family came from Finland. Grandparents were from Rauma. I have a very talented cousin Teuvo Salminen who is still there as well as many other family members. I was wondering if you were family as well. My mother was Helen Johanna Salminen and we are from Michigan. Nice presentation.
