FULL RECIPE HERE: Dry Ingredients 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 4 Tbsp butter (browned- see instructions below) 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup vegetable oil 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 1 egg + 1 egg yolk 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups rolled oats 1/2 cup raisins Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Brown butter (1-3 mins, swirl pan which allows for more even browning). Place browned butter in a glass bowl; add cinnamon (which blooms the spice); add oil and mix. To same bowl, add sugars and mix. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. To same bowl, add flour mixture (dough will be thick). Add oats and raisins and mix well. Portion about 3 Tablespoons of dough onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Wet hands and flatten cookies to about 2” in diameter. Bake one tray at a time (to ensure even baking) at 375 degrees for about 10 mins. Cookies will appear “underdone.” Edges will just start to set, center will be soft. Keep cookies on the baking tray for 5 mins (will continue to bake). Move cookies to a wire rack to cool further. Enjoy!

Bake at 375 (at my home, for 12 minutes)!!! This recipe is a keeper. My daughter and I followed every step, and of course as I stated we added 2 more minutes for cooking. The cookies are moist with great brown edges. Be sure to use “wet hands” and flatten the dough...it works. Thanks for this one and good luck to all the at home bakers. Cheers.

Followed the recipe exactly; browned the butter, weighed out 3 tablespoons of batter for each cookie (mine were 60 grams each), measured them to 2 1/2 inches, baked 10 minutes. My edges were JUST starting to turn golden brown, I was tempted to go longer, but pulled them at 10. I’m glad that I did because they are fantastic! 10 out of 10 recommend!!

I will try adding the almond extract when I make these, because usually when you use oats as a streusel topping for pie or cookies you're trying to sub the oats as nuts! The Almond Extract will make these scrumptious!! I might even add some crushed almond slices or even toasted crushed sunflower seeds and chopped crasins.

I follwed your basic recipe but made them more gourmet. I used a whole stick, 8 tbsp, of unsalted butter, lightly browned. I don't use oil unless I have to. Soaked one cup of raisins in half Myers Rum and half hot distilled water. Then, chopped a 1/4 cup pecans and mixed it all by spoon. You were spot on at 375 for ten minutes. Cookies were buttery with a hint of rum, so good. Loved your work.

Since it is Christmas time I used a variety of dried fruit ( apricots, golden raisins, blueberries, strawberries, cherries ) to jazz it up a bit and they were so chewy and delicious! The original Quaker Vanishing oatmeal cookie recipe has made some adjustments over the years. In this 2019 video it is stated that the back of the box recipe calls for 20 tablespoons butter. The 2021 back of the box recipe calls for 1 stick butter plus 6 tablespoons (14 tablespoons/7 ounces.) At one time 20 tablespoons of oleomargarine was needed to compensate for the water content between oleomargarine and butter. My late 70’s calls for 1 stick butter ( 4 ounces) plus 3/4 cup oil. Said to bake for 8 finish on sheet for 3 minutes then remove to rack to finish cooling. Your 2019 oil/ browned butter recipe with adjusted flour measurement and correct baking time also returns to the original directions to hand mix, which is the method I have always used. However, the blooming of the reduced cinnamon in the warm butter was new to me and I couldn’t believe the improvement. Bravo! This one is a must use, especially for my raisin/no raisin divided oatmeal cookie loving family.

Pro Tip: Soak the raisins! Beat the eggs well, add the vanilla and add the raisins to the egg & vanilla. Soak the raisins in the egg mixture for an hour. Add the egg, raisin and vanilla mixture to your flour and oat mixture! Eggs become caramelized from the sugar in the raisins, raisins are plump & juice and sweet! Cookies take on a nice carmel/nutty type flavor without having to brown any butter. Tried and true recipe from my grandmother. I've been making them this way for 45 years!

Another trick: always soften your raisons by letting them soak in water for ten minutes or so before adding them (just use a strainer of some sort to drain excess water before adding to recipe). No more hard as rock raisins! Try it, and you will be amazed at how much a difference it makes!

@@vaylonkenadell I keep a quart jar of rum and raisins in my cupboard. The raisins will want to float but a pickling weight holds them down nicely. When all the raisins are used, you're left with raisin-infused rum to add to recipes (or drinks)!

@@colleenkaralee2280 When I use dried cherries, I cut them into small pieces and as the damp dough bakes it also hydrates the cherries. Btw, when I make apple crisp or pie, I include raisins, or craisins, or dried cherries.

Oh boy! I made this recipe about a month ago when no one else was home. I ate them all in less than 24 hours with no regrets. They were perfect, but I tweaked the recipe. I used about 1/2 cup of white raisins. I also toasted about 1 cup of pecans and very coarsely chopped them. I'm going to make them again right now, only this time I'll double the recipe!

Normally, for a dough as thick as that one looks, I would put it in the fridge and wait for the flour to hydrate (possibly overnight). In this case though, would you do that? or would that negatively affect the texture of the oats?

Thanks for a great Chewy Oatmeal Cookie. I made it for my Sister and her husband on yesterday and they loved it. Half the recipe was made with Golden Raisins and the other half with Natural California Raisins. I even made two cookies without Raisins, my preference; I will add chocolate chips next time. It is really a great tasting cookie with crunchy edges and a chewy center. Awesome! These ladies are great teachers. I love their videos!

Beauty, like all things are in the eye of the beholder. So it goes for cooking. Everyone knows we all have our own unique taste. I tweeted every recipe I have taken from all over. Me, I toast my oats 1st. And I always ground up some to make flour consistency like to make it taste the way I like. Oh yes, adding Rum does add to its flavor as well. When it comes to cooking, and its sweets. I tend to use liquid coffee creamer instead of milk. You'll be surprised how depth of flavor you create by doing so. Since creamer has sugar in it. Be aware of how much you are using as well.

Hello. I made this recipe today and they're quite tasty! I didn't have enough canola oil and added extra butter to compensate. I added 1 cup of chocolate chips - no raisins. And, maybe it's our oven, but I cooked at 325 degrees for 12 minutes. They're crispy around the edges and chewy in the middle.
