How in the world did this song not garner as much success as "1 Thing" I'll never know. "Touch" is an amazing song and Amerie co-wrote it too. It did reach the top 20 over here in the UK, but didn't chart very well in the US. This is one of my fave songs that I constantly play on repeat. This music video is s3xual in its nature, but is portrayed in a tasteful manner. I love Amerie's outfit, it makes her skin glow. She is just beautiful.

@C. C. "Nobody copied her"? watch this and find out who actually tried to copy Amerie, and to their credit did a very good job, because they have people like you believing it was the other way around: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMlkg6eUypbedqs.html
@jaysmith99333 жыл бұрын
@@Ciclopea2 The Empressive Channel is not exactly some credible award winning, hard hitting, investigative journalist. She's just a regular person running a KZfaq tea channel, she pieces thise stories from things she reads online like everyone else and interjects a lot of her own personal conclusions into her stories. She gets a lot of her facts wrong. This is from an actual review of Ameries second album that was actually written in 2005 before people had time to muddle up the history: *When Amerie’s debut arrived on my desk in 2002, I didn’t bother reviewing it. The music was innocuously pleasant-it warranted neither a complaint nor a compliment-and Amerie herself was anonymous, seemingly just a voice for up-and-comer Rich Harrison, who wrote and produced the tidy affair in its entirety.* Since then, Harrison has joined the in-demand ranks of The Neptunes and Timbaland, producing for superstars like Beyoncé, Usher, and Jennifer Lopez. *Ironically, Harrison’s premier songstress is now likely to be deemed a copycat. The influence of Beyoncé‘s massive hit “Crazy In Love” is all over Amerie’s sophomore effort Touch* -even a remix of her debut single, “Why Don’t We Fall In Love,” gets the sample-happy treatment. The infectious hit “1 Thing” is a step up from J. Lo’s second-rate “Get Right” (unlike that song, “1 Thing” is light and airy), but it still follows the formula too closely: repetitive hook, high-pitched vocal, horn-y sample (this time it’s The Meters’ “Oh, Calcutta”). - *SLANT Magazine* So in that critical review you can see that even back then the critics acknowledged that although Amerie worked with Rich first on her entire 1st album, the sound was boring. She did NOT usher in a new fresh sound with that album that everyone flicked to steal from. Her first album was very safe, very laid back, and very generic. The critcs also acknowledged that "Touch" was a very obvious complete change of sound from her 2002 debut, and that her new sound was clearly influenced by CIL a song that Bee had released two years prior. So yeah it was Amerie who changed up not only her sound but she changed up her stage performance style to copy what Bee was doing in her performances. Also if you listen to that part of the empressive video where Amerie is interviewed by Wendy Williams back in 2005, it should tell you all something when Wendy says it 1 Thing sounds like you "ran out and got Beyonce's producer". That's because dispite Amerie working with Rich heavily before Beyonce for her first album, that go-go heavy sound wasn't the sound they put out with that project. It was not "her sound" until CIL blew up and made Rich the go to producer. CIL was a massive #1 hit that was very acclaimed critically and won multiple Grammy's and other awards. It became her signature song at the time, but it was the only track with that sound on the album, as it was the last song that she recorded right before the recording deadline for her album. So it was always expected that Bee would get a chance to lean in a lot heavier with that sound for her second album. However since Bee was fully obligated to a year and a half spent promoting the 4th and final Destiny's Child album, it gave Amerie the window to snatch up Rich and do a full go-go album before Bee could. Of course back then when people could still remember the facts accurately, she was just one of several r&b females scrambling to keep up in a Beyonce world, and the change came off as forced and inauthentic to the general public, which is why she quickly fizzled out after 1 Thing. Whatever the case, you can't blame her career evaporating on her being "robbed" of her sound by Beyonce, because Touch was released a year and a half before B'Day came out, so Amerie had "her sound" all to herself and still it had already flopped and died on it's own well before B'Day was even a factor. Touch had already come and died by then. So yeah the narrative if Bee stealing from Amerie is false, it was actually always the opposite. Hell if you wanna talk about it, lets talk about how this very video for "Touch" is clearly just a knock off version of Bey's video for "Baby Boy" 🤔.
@Ciclopea23 жыл бұрын
@@jaysmith9933 lol you could've saved so much energy instead of writing that essay, if you actually saw that video there's even footage of an interview where Amerie shares her side of the story which supports what I've been saying, you don't need to be a Pulitzer prize winner to do basic research and gather evidence even from the horse's mouth so to speak, there's nothing i can do about how you react to the facts that are presented to you, and i don't think i care that much anyway.
@jaysmith99333 жыл бұрын
@@Ciclopea2 The reason i'm capable of writing an "essay" on this topic is because unlike yourself i've done more than "basic" research, which in your case "basic research" seems to be "I heard it in a KZfaq video so it must be right". In addition to the fact that I was highly active on forums and messageboards that centered around music and entertainment, specifically African-American entertainment so I remember how events actually played out back then. The only "side of the story" Amerie gave in that video was after Wendy said 1 Thing sounds like she went out and got Beyonce's producer, Amerie replied with "it's the go-go, but I was doing go-go on the first album", that was a PR response, obviously she couldn't say "well yea Bee did it first, so then I decided to do it too because she made it hot" so her response was to muddle the issue, it wasn’t technically a lie because she had a track with go-go elements on it "Need You Tonight", but that song was one step away from being a ballad, it still sounded nothing like the sound ushered in by CIL and the one Amerie later adopted on her second album. This quote is also straight from the horses mouth: "The first album we actually had Go-Go elements *in one of the records* that we did, but it was a slower kind of vibe." www.mvremix.com/urban/interviews/amerie2.shtml So there Amerie herself admits that her first album had only one single song with go-go elements and that was a slow joint. Having one single deep cut with some subtle go-go elements in it that wasn't even uptempo, on her album did not make it "her sound", the sound she was known for was her slower laid back grooves like "Why Don’t We Fall In Love" and "Talking to Me". 1 Thing Amerie was a total reinvention both in sound an image as a response to the success Beyonce had with CIL and was having in general.
@jaysmith99333 жыл бұрын
@@Ciclopea2 *Also "from the horses mouth:* "From her face, she was kind of like, 'I don't know, but I'mma ride with you anyway,' " he remembered. "I knew I was going to have to sell it a little bit, because when it comes on *it doesn't sound like anything that was being done at the time."* - *Rich Harrison on doing CIL with Beyonce* www.mtv.com/news/1484784/road-to-the-grammys-the-making-of-beyonces-crazy-in-love/ "It was energy and beat driven and *I had never done anything like that for Amerie* , but I wanted to give it to her." - *Rich Harrison on doing 1 Thing with Amerie* books.google.com/books?id=9iYEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA151&lpg=PA151&dq=amerie+on+beyonce+diss&source=bl&ots=DUT6e1It6M&sig=ACfU3U0WXno8RsKrEmnSHRtGF0kQOesxpg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiA1cbukrDuAhUPWqwKHbSqAxE4MhDoATAJegQICRAB#v=onepage&q=Rich&f=false *(pg. 234)* So there you have Rich Harrison the producer in question himself admiting that he had NEVER done anything like that sound with Amerie before prior to 1 Thing in 2005, while also saying that Crazy In Love itself sounded like nothing what was being done before when it was released in 2003. So that tells you even the producer would acknowledge that Bee did that sound first with CIL. This is why none of these channels pushing this narrative that Bee stole Amerie's sound won't just reach out to Rich to get his story and his recount of events.

Amerie is stunningly beautiful. I must give a special mention to her hair, could it be more glamorous. She has it all. A great voice, she could dance and she has class. She just wouldn’t be manipulated and wouldn’t play ball. She was a big competition to Beyonce, Beyonce was with Jay Z and had and still has tremendous power within the music industry. I’m sure she had words with a few people to ensure that Amerie didn’t steal her thunder. To be honest I’m a fan of Beyonce too, she’s super talented and also stunning, but there was room for both. I also think J Lo another powerful player in the music industry at the time was not too pleased that the song she wanted “1 Thing” was released by Amerie as she wanted that song for herself. I hope Amerie makes a comeback soon 🎶💃🏽
