Making me laugh out load is a gift you have when real scientific serious debates are happening and is a one of the reasons why I’m addicted to your content. The Anti Bullshit theme (that is now carved into my own narrative) is such a compelling agent for engagement and retention. It’s hard sometimes to hear your opinions and truths of those that I am interested in and have admiration for (Stoppani being one) but real grateful that you shine the light on authenticity and validity no matter who’s risen up to the challenge. Thank you for continuing the lift up as we’re locked down 👊

This is exactly what I was looking for. I was in the middle of a podcast where the guest was promoting his essential amino acids line like it was the magic powder to make all my dreams come true, and I was thisclose to throwing my money at them. But then I thought, wait, what does Layne have to show us about this? In a world full of clickbait, thanks for always sticking with the facts, and making it easy for us non-science folks to understand!

Layne, As a frugal consumer. The biggest selling point is always going to be price, and then taste. A brand that I purchase and promote on the regular is MyProtein because they've successfully hit on all of these. I respect you and Holly with the utmost sincerity and appreciate your content. I would love nothing more for your products to taste better and be priced to compete. Please take these points into consideration when building your next line. I personally feel that Marc Lobliner has some of the best tasting whey supplements BUT as a frugal consumer, I don't regularly keep his products stocked in my home. Just my 2 cents.

That last tidbit about the how you can add leucine to lower quality protein sources and creating the same muscle protein synthetic response, what about that study that recently compared blood levels of amino acids in whey vs a plant protein that was equated for amino acids and had a pdcass score of 1? I thought that all things equated, some animal proteins still prevail? Thanks

Hey man. Good data. But I think that most people would confuse the studies, the one you mention and the one that indicates that until you get protein, you remain catabolic after a heavy workout. That is obviously different from triggering anabolic functions after a workout via bcaa and protein. Does that make sense? This isnt about anabolic so much slowing the catabolic. The overall metabolic ratio is hopefully in the direction of gains.

@biolayne, I'm curious what your opinion is of MAP (master amino acid pattern)? The dosage for 10g only has a leucine content of 1.964g and yet the studies showing the effectiveness seem to be sound but are from 1998. Do they still hold up and are EAA's the way to go? Perhaps you can do a video post on this topic?

I’m not Layne and I’m not a doctor nor a scientist. I’m in school but not at that level yet, just to clarify. But just from a practical stand point, I’d say maybe move some of the protein and nutrients to a pre or post workout meal just to be safe. For instance, remove 200ish calories from the meal at noon and have a protein powder or chocolate milk around your workout. I go with chocolate milk because it’s a fairly good blend of whey and casein, and can help with satiety given the slower digestion rate of casein. That’s just me, would be interested to hear what Layne has to say.
@Cam-sl8ve
@Cam-sl8ve 2 жыл бұрын
If you're doing OMAD that means consuming all your protein needs within 1 meal... do you think that's reasonable? If you're 70kg that's something like 154g of protein. Maybe reconsider OMAD and in some additional eating windows before your workout.

you have to blend plant-based protein in order to derive a complete plant protein. none of them in stand-alone form are complete proteins. so you'd have to blend pea and brown rice protein, for example, to get a whole protein and appropriate BCAA (or EAA) profile. but assuming you have the correct blend, then i don't believe there would be a need for extra leucine.

People need to wake TF up about supplements. As I tell my clients, most are 1-5%, at best, of the puzzle. Whey, creatine, certain vitamins and a few others may account for more. But ultimately, they're SUPPLEMENTS, not shortcuts. Layne, you'll be well aware that it's not your fault your support company didn't last; it's the dumbness of the general population. And by dumbness, I mean a mixture of laziness, ignorance and naivety. If I opened a supplement company, I'm sure it would fail too when I say "they are aren't going to do shit if you're eating too many calories, and training like a girl scout". Because that's what I would say, because that's the fucking truth. Yet STILL, lazy morons the world over scour the internet, buying into marketing like "get ripped", "shred max 3000" and other utter bullshit. I love this series you do, because there are SO many moronic influencers out there who are robbing people blind. But if there was a defence, which there's not, but if there was lol, it would be that they're evidently smarter than their followers (which is embarrassing) and simply taking advantage of that fact. The fault ultimately falls with the consumer. The knowledge and facts are out there, in great videos like this, and in my fucking IG story, but no one can be fucked to investigate themselves. They'd rather be bullshitted. They'd rather believe in 'hype', even if they KNOW it's hype, because it's easier. And they can blame someone when it doesn't work. This is the definition of stupidity. I would say 'rant over', but it's not lol. I will continue to be as real as possible, as you have been here. Our views are valued more than those of Paige Whatever and her 'Lean Creatine', by our clients. But hopefully they will be valued more widely, when the human race evolves and average intelligence significantly increases. I won't hold my breath. That will be thousands of years lol. Keep it up mate, love your channel.

I swear I weight every single gram of food that I ate when I was preparing for a competition. I used protein powder two times a day and ofc some protein source from food for dinner and midday. I saw NO GAINS! As soon as I switched coaches which banned me from using powders as a source of protein and used food in stead, I saw gains like crazy. I am really upset because all these influencers are advertising protein powder as if it has the same nutrients as protein from food. Probably all fake and probably doesn't have all the essential amino acids. There is anyway no consumer laws in the US that doesn't require these companies to say it has all essential amino acids.
