Am I the Jerk?

Күн бұрын

There were three of us who worked security at a prominent downtown bank (1 for day shift, 1 for swing shift, and 1 overnight). I was the swing shift guard.
On the job we had time clocks we had to punch in on in different areas showing we were patrolling. There was ONE revolver for the three of us and I found out it wasn’t in working order (not only dirty and a plugged up barrel, but the cylinder wouldn’t rotate, but it didn’t matter, for the ammo inside had turned green, making it unusable).
So it was my third night, I had just taken over from the older daylight guard and started I making my rounds with my privately owned weapon and cleaning the duty weapon between patrols. When I finished cleaning, and putting in new ammo, I carried it along with mine.

The narrator asks how serious it is? Well, here is an example taken from a FAQ on a law office's (In the US, NY city to be precise) website: What kind of punishments can you expect? Any form of assault on a police officer could result in a sentence of at least two years, and - as you would expect - this increases with the severity of the charge: The maximum sentence for assault in the second degree is seven years, with a minimum of two years in prison as it is considered a violent felony. The maximum sentence for assault on a police officer is fifteen years, with a minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison, regardless of any prior convictions. For aggravated assault of a police officer, the minimum sentence is five years, with a maximum of 25 - this can be extended to life in prison for persistent felony offenders Yeah, never a good idea, especially, from what I understand, if done in public, the officer is actually REQUIRED by law/codes of conduct to take the person in, regardless of the circumstances.

@Adam Walker : Except she didn't commit assault, she committed battery. The repercussions are much less severe. No one is going to jail for a minimum of two years for simply slapping someone in the face, regardless of who the victim is. Please look up the legal definition of assault and battery, and learn the difference. What she did is clearly just a misdemeanor. Some states, like Louisianna, have a mandatory 15 days in jail and a fine up to $500 for what the lady did. If the victim wasn't a police officer, then jail time would be optional.
@adamwalker3560
@adamwalker3560 2 жыл бұрын
@@Accrovideogames From my understanding (and the legal definitions on the internet as supplied from law office FAQ's), the main difference between battery and assault is that battery typically has the presence of injuries (and thus, no, it is actually a heavier offense because of it). Besides, the point here is that this lady hit an officer in public. That means, if the officer felt threatened, he could've responded with force according to the situation (naturally, internal hearings would've roasted him in this particular situation had he done so), also, what the lady was charged with depends heavily on the city/state/judge/situation, so we're can't really state for a certainty what it would be. In any case, 15 days in jail and a $500 fine isn't correct in this situation, and I do not know where you quoted such a light punishment for such a relatively heavy offense. P.S. An individual can also be charged for multiple counts of assualt and battery for a single act of aggression, so either or isn't a very good what if analysis of the situation. Also, both assault and battery are NOT misdemeanors; physically attacking another person is automatically beyond misdemeanor, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding.

On my military time, there was an exercice for newbie: guard the ammunition warehouse, by night. Usually late on the night a high-rank officer with medals on its uniform will come and ask to enter the warehouse, and this is a test: you have to stop it, first by asking politely but firmly, then by pointing your assault rifle to him. If you let him approach you, or worse enter, you are literally done! It was usually an instructor from another group with Colonel or General marks on its uniform, so you don't know this person in any way.

Speaking currently, I work at a bank and we would never let someone have access to the vault or safe deposit box areas without verifying that the person is an auditor or a vendor. If they’re an auditor we can look them up in our employee records as they’re sent internally. If they’re a vendor we aren’t familiar with we have policies in place to verify there is a work order and that we expect them to be there for servicing or deliveries.

story number one the bank guard: there are people who companies can hire specifically to do penetration testing to see how secure their facility is, and Banks would be a prime candidate for this type of audit. the pen testing pros don't actually take things, their job is just to get there and record some kind of proof that they were able to bypass the security and gain access to things that they're not supposed to be able to gain access to. this means that they're "social engineering", picking locks, bypassing electronic security, hacking into computers, whatever it takes to get a photo or video of them accessing things they're not supposed to be able to access that they include in their final report. there's actually a whole genre of KZfaq videos related to this. their goal is to get in there as easily and non-destructively as possible, which means that social engineering is the primary method

Most big companies have policies in place nowadays to prevent random people walking in claiming they are there to check stuff, and if the policies are followed noone should be able to pull a fast one. At the very least an email ahead of time and name badge, uniform and signing in with security, and for sensitive stuff a call all the way up the chain to the big boss to confirm. I don't even think the safe trick would work if a company has drop safes, because you need a bank security guard with the second key to open the safe, and that second key is only ever on the premises for 30 minutes every few days when the area is locked down with all non-critical personnel locked out and the cash delivery vehicle and guards are there to collect the money.

Story 3 where was that old lady when the cops go in for police brutality? I mean they should also get fired, right?

I remember when I was if I’m right 10 or 11 and I got out of school and walked home and saw some people who work for my dad and an unused thing lf equipment (its not really equipment it’s one lf those machine with an extending arm on it so people who are standing on it can get higher) I was on one with my dad in the past so I knew it was disabled at that moment so I went to sand on it because it was grounded anyway (stupid younger me) and one of the workers saw and got really mad at me because strangers can’t use it and my uncle who also works for my dad worked at that place at that moment too but was on a break and went to see the commotion and was like oh hey how are you (he had already given me permission to be ln it when it’s disabled a few days before) and the other worker just was like you know this kid and he was like yeah that’s the boss his son it was kinda funny to see his reaction

I would do what the police officer did, tell her it’s a joke and we were testing a material out for the cats
