No problem!! :D Good luck in the interview! :) Since I didn't get past the group interview, I don't really have any advice for you there. Sorry! Thanks for watching!

Good luck!! :D I'm glad my video helped you somewhat! :D I'm living in Japan now, actually! JET didn't offer me an interview, but I got a job with Interac :) They're a great company! Thanks for watching! XD

have higher salaries. So, I'd recommend you do what I did and make a pro/con list and decide for yourself which would be better for you personally. For me, it's being an ALT. For others, perhaps an eikaiwa would be better. And, if all else fails, you're still in Japan and can definitely find a job more to your liking while living here. :) Thanks for watching and good luck with your interview!

I am applying to Amity this year too! Already tried out for JET and didn't make the US interview list cut. Good luck on your journey to try and teach in Japan :)

Hello! I'm glad that you found the video helpful! :) I'd definitely use gestures and simple, clear sentences during your demo lesson. With practice, you might be surprised to see how well you can get your ideas across that way. Any game that requires you to speak in full sentences is too complex! If you can't simplify it, use students as examples and lead them through the activity. Thanks for watching and good luck! :)

I can tell that you are using a logitech C910! Thanks for the video, this is actually the first time I've heard of both amity and aeon. Very useful information.

I'm glad you liked mt video! I am still working with Interac and because I'm terrible at responding to messages so I'm going to respond here! :) In my personal opinion, I think being an ALT (like you would be through Interac) is far superior to working for an eikaiwa. The hours are much better and I have normal weekends. That being said, some people might enjoy working at eikaiwas better. Classes at eikaiwas are smaller and tend to be in the late afternoon or nighttime. And eikaiwas usually

@darthrudious I think it would, considering that eikaiwa are all about marketing and selling classes and stuff. I'm sure if you brought that up during the interview process, it would help :) But, they didn't hire me so I don't know everything :) Thanks for watching and good luck! :D

For more information, please check out my video called, "Teaching in Japan FAQ". Basically, though, you can major in anything you want as long as you end up with at least a bachelor's degree. However, as you are not a licensed teacher in Japan, you are not legally allowed to teach anything other than English. And you're only an assistant a that. You don't require a teaching license from your home country, though, no. Thanks for watching!

@AsparagusComplex ...lesson plan so make sure it's the fun and interesting part. Make a poster or colorful cards. Use a ball. Make sure you have an idea of what you would do for your entire lesson plan in case you are asked. Do NOT use Japanese and try to incorporate a real sentence or two for the students. The others in your group interview will act as your students. Use them!! Don't lecture. :) My favorite lessons were on facial features and greetings. That's it for advice! Good luck!

@Daylady1028 I mean that Amity wants their employees to advertise both their own lessons and the company throughout the town/area. So they want you to distribute flyers advertising those things :)

Just a little bit of an update, I guess... I went to the... March interview in L.A. For us, after our quizzes, everyone was given an envelope and was told to open it once I left the interview site. Luckily, I was given a personal interview the next day... Best of luck to ya, Lauren! See ya in Japan??? XD

@sailorlimabean I'm sure you interviewed at a better time for hiring, especially if it was after the earthquake. I'm sure many people quit after that. Well, I'm glad you were given a personal interview!! I'm sure you deserve one! :) Good luck to you, too, and perhaps I will see you in Japan! :D

I'm flying out to LA for my interview next week, and was kind of starting to freak out. Google led me to this video, and it definitely helped calm some of the nerves, so thanks!! Did you end up getting into JET and/or going to Japan?

@AsparagusComplex Well, experience with children isn't necessary, but definitely think about how to discuss how you are qualified to work with children. If you make it to the personal interview, you will be asked about that :) As for lesson plans, think back to things that excited you when you were in school. Pretend you are teaching kindergartners. They would want lots of excitement and visuals from you. They would want games and silliness. You will only present 5 minutes of your....

I'm heading in for a group interview this Saturday. I don't have experience teaching children, so I'm a bit stuck for a lesson plan. Do you have any pointers? Also, if you remember the demonstrations the other applicants gave, what was your favorite?

My salary is definitely enough to live on :) As long as you don't go partying every weekend and spend a ton of money, you'll be fine on cash. And Interac (like most jobs in the world) doesn't pay you when you're not working. So you will not be paid for not working during your breaks. Luckily, breaks in Japan are never more than a month long. If you're frugal the rest of the year, you'll be fine on cash. Just don't be stupid with your money!

Hi Lauren! I know this video is outdated, hehe, but are you still working via Interac? Do you still enjoy it? I just got an interview w/ Amity, and have an acquaintance that worked w/ Amity and liked it, but....there's negative info floating around about every company, Amity and Interac included, alas. Would you mind messaging me about working w/ Interac? Do you think it's better than working w/ eikaiwa, do you feel fairly treated, etc? Thank you!! and I hope you are enjoying your time!

Thank you! It's definitely going to be nerve-wracking for me - I'm really torn between the eikaiwa and ALT thing. It's crazy what wildly different opinions you hear about every. single. company. >__< Do you feel like your salary w/ Interac is adequate for your life there? I *think they pay less during summer/semester break, right? Honestly the extra time off compared w/ an eikaiwa sounds great, I just don't wanna feel broke or not save any money :P - Thanks again!
