I'm glad you mentioned "I've been detailing it for a week". I think it's easy for a lot of detailing enthusiasts to overwhelm themselves trying to achieve this over a weekend. It's important to realize that this level of detail takes some serious time! It's not an afternoon project.

This is the same thing people do when they read about a historical event that happened over 20 years, like a war. Everything gets viewed in a massively skewed timetable. It's good you took the time to point this out so people can be realistic about their work and outcome when they do this for passion and not as a job so they can limit their expectations.

I had my first encounter with one today in at least ten years. Friend of a friend on a drive today. We drove some quiet twisty roads and I was seriously impressed with the pace it could keep up on such a tight road. It’s definitely a dream car for me too along with an e92 M3, the design is timeless and it looks just as imposing in the rear mirror nowadays. Very quiet though, definitely in need of an aftermarket exhaust to wake it up a bit. Hope you manage to get one someday!

Congratulations on this awesome m5. I have a 2000 anthracite gray one. And a 97. 540i sport 6 speed. Which I daily drive there is something truly special about the E39 platform. Especially with sports options. And a manual transmission. Even though turbos are all the rage these cars have a soul that just comes alive when they’re pushed closer to their limits. So well balanced in everything they do.

My dad's been daily driving an E39 M5 for over 15 years. 2nd owner from a friend since 30k miles. It's up over 140k now I believe. Meticulously maintained. Bone stock. Absolutely love the car.

8:49 - I also performed a paint correction on a "well-loved" black E39 M5 late last year and I totally agree, the paint is extremely cooperative and perfect for polishing. By far the easiest black car I've ever polished, and one of the easiest paint corrections I've done in general. Also, I tried several leather cleaners while cleaning the interior, and AMMO Lather was the only one that left me with a perfect matte finish on the leather that didn't feel sticky, definitely my go-to leather cleaner now. I'm not a huge BMW fan but the E39 M5 is such a great car, the build quality is superb and the way they drive is so buttery smooth. The shifter felt smooth, tight, and precise which is unusual from a BMW of that era. The clutch was on the heavier side, but the bite point was exactly where you'd expect it to be. The suspension is smooth and forgiving, but definitely does a great job of hiding the fact that the car weighs 4000lbs and it handles fantastic for a 20+ year old car. Great work as always, Larry! Always looking forward to your next video!

I have never owned a BMW and I may never own one but this transformation almost makes me want to give German engineering a shot. Maybe one day I can own a Mercedes or BMW. Having driven my brother-in-law's E39 M5 from Edmonton to Vancouver Island a few years ago I can attest to the fact the E39 M5 is a fantastic driver's car. I once owned a 03 530i and that sedan was also a fantastic driver's car capable of running at 130 km/ph all day. The M5 featured looks terrific. Bravo Larry a job well done!

I have an anthracite gray 2000 m5 which I bought 5 years after owning a 1997 540i sport 6 speed in Oxford green metallic / tan interior. It is simply the most satisfying and fun car to drive. It does everything so well. Driver involvement and feedback is superb. Performance is surprising even today. the chassis balance and dynamics are perfect in my opinion. My daily driver 540 sport is at 170,000 and still runs awesome -aside from the oil leaks ( which I’ll remedy during its timing chain and guide replacements). my M5 and 540 sport have had a complete overhaul of their steering and suspension components including all ball joints , shocks/struts and all rubber bushing and control arms replaced with OEM brand components making them ride like new cars. Amazing how stable and planted they feel at high speeds, hard corners, fast sweeping turns etc. after all the posts I’ve read from previous owners who regret selling theirs , I dont see any reason to sell them . Ever. Although I do have a 2 owner 91 850i with the rare 6speed manual (schwarz black exterior and perfect grey leather interior ) that I’ll be listing on bring a trailer in the near future. Once I have a new set of tires and a wheel alignment done. While the 850 looks like a true classic the m5 and 540 are way more addictive to drive. They too have a timeless design .

Woof, what a beauty! Wow, long gone are the days... at least in the US, that you can get a proper sedan with a v8 and manual transmission. Well, maybe a Cadillac but still, not that many options. Great job as always on the detailing!

U opened a closed chest in my heart. When we where young we said this will never gets better , then newer models came and we forget about it, now this makes you young again , it’s really never gonna get better and not gonna change my mind forever.❤
