On November 9th, 2022 at around 10:20 a.m., a witness from a factory site of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Realschule Siegburg reported a darkly dressed, hooded man at the school’s bicycle stands, one of whom had a long gun in his hand. In addition, two shots are said to have been fired at the school, triggering an amok alarm.
The police initially spoke of shots on site, but then corrected the statement to "banging noises".
Police forces cordoned off the area around the school grounds. Special units searched the building as a precaution. No suspicious persons or objects were found in the school. According to initial information, bullet casings were found outside the school. In the further course, however, it turned out that it was the remains of fireworks that had been secured.
Investigating police officers found a 14-year-old who matched the description of the perpetrator and took him to the police station. After verification, including a search of his home address with the consent of the parents, there are no grounds for suspicion against the young person.
A second youth is said to have fled in the direction of Kaufland.
Pupils in the lower part of the school left the building through the windows, which remained on the upper floors with their teachers in the classrooms.
After the school was searched, special forces took the students to the adjacent gym. The parents of the children could go there from around 1:15 p.m. Police and emergency chaplains were on hand to provide care. At around 3:00 p.m., the police finally announced that the searches at the school had been completed and the children were now being handed over to their parents.
In the neighboring comprehensive school, there were fewer students than usual because a counseling day was taking place there. After the large-scale operation, the police are still investigating the violation of the weapons law.
The immediately adjacent fire station was used as a control center and assembly point.
