Vulgar Necrolatry has to be one of the heaviest, most abrasive and aggressive songs ever. The riff is fucking awesome, and the whole sound... especially this version, has a raw and gritty ambiance that just makes you feel it to the core.

"A grittier, darker and faster version of the death metal that was effective later on The Karelian Isthmus, this brief glimpse at older Amorphis shows a band making death metal from pure rhythm with overtones of melodic composition. On this release, the appearance of melody is present where it is continuous and further fused on later work. Songs follow basic formulae and work within basic rock or metal theory, but with a distinctiveness in form and melodic content varying with each track there is an inner spirit of creativity encouraged here. While arguably Amorphis peaks later in existence, these tracks remain favorites for their complete lack of artifice, leaving only a direct and visceral exercise in the emotions behind the formation of death metal. Sensual and straightforward these songs roll through their paces and do not exceed standard technique, but give to it a unique voice in riff creation and the beginnings of the broader visions tinging their first full-length album."

The production is amazing, filled with treble, gritty and raw, great sounding drums and vocals. The guitar tone is top notch. This one probably has the best version of Vulgar Necrolatry.

When I was about 16, I remember my friend getting the 7 inch record of this from relapse records. He was always buying the 7 inch record eps like this. He made me some recordings of a bunch of good ones like this one.

Невероятная атмосфера, такое ощущение, что эти юнцы (на тот момент) пережили что-то страшное в своей жизни. Их полноформатный альбом, который вышел годом ранее в 1992 году, считаю лучшим в творчестве. В этом EP есть два номера, которые не вошли в альбом. Как бы качественно не звучала музыка после 2003 года, она потеряла свою неповторимую атмосферу.

Потеряла атмосферу - как минимум потому, что Койвусаари к тому моменту уже перестал петь и писать темы, а стал чисто гитарастом. Потому что группа ушла в коммерцию, а за мелодическую часть стали отвественными в основном Холопайнен и клавишники (Рантала, Каллио) - это если судить даже по тем ванильным соплям, которые Эса выпускает вне группы. Сейчас надежды возлагаю на сольный проект Томи, Bjørkø. Надеюсь, хоть там он себя проявит как минимум как композитор - а если уж и гроулить соизволит - вообще идеально будет.

@@user-en6lk9rw2j Смотря что иметь в виду под качеством, если звукозапись - да, само собой, вылизано чисто) А если сам материал - тут у каждого свой вкус, но как по мне - после Tales они тупо стали монетизировать музыку. Что само по себе очень достойно, учитывая, что у всех семьи)) Очень показательно, что Оппу ушел довольно быстро, когда понял, что группа будет играть то, что им скажет менеджер. Показательно, что сайд-проекты Койвусаари куда интереснее, чем собственно Amorphis, куда он чисто на работу ходит, судя по всему. Насчет Каллио и Эсы промолчу, потому что поздний Amorphis за редким исключением терпеть не могу, а они пишут 90% всего материала. НО - это мое мнение, я фанат старых Amorphis.

@@rodoxxs6134 Yes, totally agree. I believe, this simply happened because the musicians were tired of not having money and changed their style to commercial music. I was very disappointed when Koivusaari stopped singing, and I don’t like albums like Elegy and later ones.

Why Vulgar Necrolatry is both Amorphis and Abhorrence song? I know there are same band members but its still weird as its not about changing the band name but they are totally different bands? The ABhorrence version is 4 years older than this!

Tomi was the same songwriter for both Abhorrence and Amorphis. Relapse had sent Abhorrence a record deal, but since they were no longer around Tomi told them about Amorphis, so the deal went to them instead and Relapse wanted them to re-record Vulgar Necrolatry for this EP since it was the song the guys at Relapse were really into. Or something along those lines.

I really dont know what i was thinking when i wrote the first comment, i have all the albums from Tke karelian isthmus to Under the red cloud and i prefer the later albums. but i compared Black Embrace on this EP and Black Embrace on the Karelian isthmus, and it really does sound diffirent, the karelian isthmus version sounds a lot better, in my opinion. But in the end opinions are like arseholes, everybody got one :)

Amorphis have always been called Amorphis. Amorphis and Abhorrence are two different bands.
