In this video i share my thoughts on openback cabinets vs closed back:) My signal chain is just an old Peterson stomp tuner, into the moog MF 104m delay, into the amp... Enjoy! #amplifier #dividedby13 #stereointellect

I have a Orange crush 12 an it was to brightness so I opened the back an sounds so mush better. An now I’ve decided to only use open back cabs for that bottom end bass sound. Awesome video.

That's great that you inclued room mic sound ! I don't know why very few people do that in their demos. Room mics actualy give a lot better idea about what's going on there.

@@stereointellect Also great quality video. You deserve a lot more subscribers man. Btw. I have a few questions. 1. Do you think that closed back will cut through the mix better ? 2. Do you think that closed back can sound as nice on clean tones ( funky stuff ) as open back ? I have open back and I sometimes love it and hate it the other day :D
@stereointellect3 жыл бұрын
Dude you’re a great player! Just sub’d:) and thanks for the kind words.. I totally feel you on liking open back one day and hate it the next. Most of the time I can play closed back, but if there’s keys then I need more mid range especially for cleaner funk sounds. But if you have an eq pedal, I’d kick on some mids for leads and clean parts

I just bought a Celestion creamback neo and put it in my Blackstar Ht club 40 MK II combo it used to have a 70/80 and I can’t decide which way works better for the cream back

Hey Zack, for me I always decide how tight I need the low end to be, and if the speaker starts to be too brittle when closed back… if so then just leave open :)
@MarshallAmpMan3 жыл бұрын
you need to do more demos, you are excellent sir! thanks for the explanation. I just bought an EVH lunchbox and I am going to connect to my Carvin open back one 12" speaker, I am concerned volume-wise, I want to be able to play loud and clean tones at times, I know the amp is great for solos but is it okay for relatively clean rhythms?
@stereointellect3 жыл бұрын
@marshallamp man hey thanks! I’m not sure about the EVH, I’m sure it does great drive, dunno bout cleans though. What I can say is loud clean is really relative. (Is there a drummer? Les Paul? Tele? Etc)

Tell me what you think about this ' I have a 68 vibrorlux reverb 2-10 Thought about closing one of the speakers in. How would I go about switching from one speaker to the other ? Some sort of Aby pedal ?
@stereointellect2 жыл бұрын
@Keith Clark- personally I wouldn’t use an “A/B” box.. in this case Fred at Divided by 13 made this box specifically for this purpose. I suppose a fully analog A/B box would work fine but I’d ask the manufacturer about using it for speakers.. As far as closing part of the cabinet that would be a trial/error thing… my guess is it would be easiest to just get a closed back 1/12 to have as an extension OR instead when you want closed… just need to be mindful of impedance… the vibrolux should have 8 ohm speakers summing to 4 ohm… so you’d have to either run one 10” at 8 ohm AND the closed back at 8ohm so the amp “sees” 4ohm, or you could get a 4 ohm speaker but then you could ONLY run the closed back OR the 10’s… make sense?? I don’t believe the vibrolux can take 2 ohm if you played both the 10’s and the extension speaker … I could be wrong but those are my initial thoughts

Scott, Just ordered AMW 39 head and 2 1x12 cabeinets( I also have the BTR23 head). Fred sent me to your videos to listen to the open/closed cabs. I have always used close back cabs but i am conciderering 1 open and 1 closed back. What are your thoughts on the combination of one open and one closed for my stage setup? We play original classic style rock in small clubs. Jeff
@stereointellect3 жыл бұрын
@jeff arowbat hey Jeff! I think one open one closed would be epic live… thee only reason I just take one or thee other is I’m just lazy and just wanna take one cab to a gig lol

@jeffarowbat63852 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzatface Hi Carlos, Hard to choose. I am currently using both in rehearsals wet/dry they compliment each other great. To choose one I guess it would depend on style of playing AMW is more rock oriented. The AMW also has a loop and its a good loop at that.

Another great video! Good to have both open and closed back. Just like your favorite cabs in the OX right? Man the OX is such a great tool. I have cabs but can rarely play because of volume issues where I live. Was trying to decide between the OX , Captor X, or getting a Fryette Power station to use with IR's. Power station supposedly has the most transparent reactive load part and it has the tube power amp and the PS100 has two setting's of EQ and volumes which could be really handy in a live setting. You can even plug two different amps into it and footswitch back and forth. But the UA sounds really good with those cabs and mics etc. I think it's between the OX and PS100.
@stereointellect3 жыл бұрын
@yourstruly thanks!! dude the ox is paramount for me at this point... I’m sure some of thee others might be a little truer to the amp, but for now the ox really fits my workflow with mic/cab options and effects...

Hi. Just stumbled across your video. Very interesting and informative. I gig with a Marshall 4x12 greenback cab and a JCM 800 playing rock. Now I’m on the fence about what cab would be best for gigs in bars, small clubs. The 4x12 is a lot to lug around so maybe something lighter/smaller would be better. Two things are very important to me though, how the cab feels and the onstage sound and obviously also how it sounds front of house. Any ideas on the perfect cabinet for this purpose? Cheers Keep up the videos.
@stereointellect9 ай бұрын
@vintagesound8112 hey right on thanks! Thee advantage to closed back live is the sound stays in one spot to me, so if you need the stage to be tighter sounding, that helps… and obviously it’s tighter feeling for rock… but that can also be a disadvantage when there’s not side fill monitoring or your NOT on “in-ears.” That’s where open back is awesome, it fills more of the stage/room, and yeah it’s looser, but for me I find I’m not playing quite as distorted these days, so that tightness isn’t as much of an issue… in your case i’d probably play an open back 1x12 and closed back 1x12… more to bring to the gig, but might make you really happy:) thanks for the positive feedback!
@vintagesound81129 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the reply. That’s an interesting solution, so two separate cabinets combining the advantages of closed and open back. How big are the cabinets themselves? Are they like a typical Marshall 1912 size? I’ve heard of people using 1x12 cabs before but can they keep up with a heavy drummer? Also there are Barefaced cabs with their Avd porting but I’ve never heard anyone using those. Great sound with the Les Paul by the way. Cheers

How do you like the mpeq 1? What is your recording chain?
@stereointellect3 жыл бұрын
@darrylweller the mpeq is so incredible, I’ll be really sad if I ever have to sell my pair.. what I like most is the flexibility, tons of headroom, yet transformer and impedance options to get saturation . The recording chain for this video was just the 57’s and the Gefell room mic and my mic all into the mpdi, I used 250 ohm setting on the input transformer, and the output pad was on hitting the output transformers harder. That’s it
