Must be awesome to be so knowledgeable about amp repair that you have to go on amp repair tech video's and tell them how wrong they are. Most of us appreciate what you do and are here to learn even if you misspeak or have to correct yourself from time to time. WE love what you do Lyle so please don't get discouraged by the ( No It All KZfaq Twats) out there, if they are so smart they can go start their own channel.

The guy who got pissed off about the year probably thought that the amp sounded better with original electrolytics

Kids, listen to the words this man says. There’s some good tips and info he just randomly spouts out that can save your ass. IE - the board expansion and need to have thermal expansion on component leads in the lengthwise direction. There’s a lot of them in Brown to Silver Fender amps. I ordered six of those 1980’s Sylvania JAN 12AT7’s. They’re just as good as 1960’s RCA’s, if not better. I noticed those ceramic 3 watt 470 ohm screen resistors. They’re available from Tube Depot and they work great. I think the amps I used them on actually sound better with them compared to new carbon comp resistors. I have no idea why, but the amps just had a bit more “sweetness”. You know, that little extra bit of touch sensitivity and willingness to go into harmonic feedback. They’re really lightweight too.

Me: "I'm perfect. Even when I screw up, I screw up perfectly." Any flaws you reveal, Lyle, are perfect. But . . . when you said, "High frequency whine" I said to myself, "Tube oscillation." And I am not in any way an amp tech. I'm just a dumb guitarist. But, I'm slowly learning from your videos. Even if I am in the neighborhood of correct assumption, I still have no idea what you are going to do to fix the problem. That's the mystery adventure of these videos! You are the Sherlock Holmes of amp techs. By the by, you seem to need an amp soak so you can run the amps hot and keep the volume down so as not to piss off the wife or neighbors. Pete Thorn says either the Suhr or Fryette units are the best soaks.

I've got dummy loads and a Redbox. I use it for testing high wattage amps at low volumes. Just didn't want to set it up for this.

For every pedantic weirdo that aggressively criticizes these kind of vids, do a channel search and find their name. Every time: "This channel has no content".

Lol,the first time a tube shield shot off it went 8 ft in the air and scared the HELL out of me! I was still really nervous about working with voltage in the first place and then THAT happens!! 😂

In my experience (as idiosyncratic as that may be), two-digit *year* codes are uncommon prior to about 1967 or '68, though I've seen a few speakers with full "64" code, for 1964. Anyway, my old brain sometimes skips a decade when I'm decoding date codes, and its especially easy to do when you only have a single "9" to go on and have to determine, and remember, whether its 1959, 69, or 79!

The nichicon caps and metal film caps change the sound . Given it the phase inverter not that much of problem . Personally not a fan of carbon composites however they do effect the sound as such an important part of the unit. What tube tester are you using ? Interesting to see what the scope looks like on that phase inverter . If the grid get driven too hard sure would cut out. Enjoy your work .

Esses no problem, I have OCD with people who pronounce words wrong. Like Mountain, instead of saying it properly, they omit the t, and say mao-anne instead, Titan, they say Ty-anne

It wasn't a spark, just the bulb flashing with inrush current. It's normal.. You just don't see it with all optos, depending on the opening in the shrinkwrap.
