Who only has 12volts? My car runs 14volts all the time.

This is what most people would put on a stock electrical systems. I would bet if you had a small alternator you'd be seeing low 13's or mid 12's maybe worse if your battery is weak.

You'll be in the 14v range while driving. 12v makes no sense.
