Welcome to Fishy Angler channel.
In this video I put Amped Outdoors 60Ah lithium deep cycle battery to the test. I ran Minn Kota Endura C2 30lb trust trolling motor at top speed to see how long battery will last on a full charge on my kayak. I over estimated the charge longevity and ended up paddling all the way back for 8 miles....🥵 Lesson learned. Watch and see how long the battery lasts.

According to videos here on youtube. Speed 5 uses just over 29 amps. Speed 4 drops all the way down to around 16.4 amps. So needless to say you can almost double your time by using speed 4. speed 3...13.7A speed 2...10.1A speed 1...8.1 A

First, thank you Fishy Angler for sharing. Data don't lie - they just don't tell you everything. LOL. Three years after I bought ($270) and set up my inexpensive inflatable "2-person" dinghy (for fishing), I finally broke it in (OK, you are allowed to laugh.) Endura C2 30 lbs. ($90, rated 30 amps) on a deep cycle marine 35Ah battery ($65, weight 23.15 lbs.) with a NOCO battery Box ($12), (all 2019 prices) in Lake Natoma (dammed river lake) which had current but no tide. It ran for about 2 hours, mostly at #3 speed, travelled for about 1.5 miles one way (Drag! Excuse: too lazy to pull up the wheels). Next idea: get another 35Ah battery (today's price $75) to double the amps (parallel).

Leaded batteries are way too heavy. But I see your desire to get more juice on the boat. The speed of the motor increases power draw significantly. When I’m fishing I mostly use 1-3 speed settings. Fishing all day and have not been stranded even once. Always have enough juice and some left when I’m done for the day.

One of the pitfalls in calculating how long a particular battery/motor combination will last is not de-rating for efficiency losses and power factor. A rule of thumb is to expect to get 80% of the ideal calculations. And if you have juice left over it's better than having to paddle when you're hot and tired.

If you have a 30-lb thrust motor, and with a 60-AH battery, at top setting of #5, you have, generally, only 2 hours of cruising, as I understand it, because your motor at top speed is using up 30 Amps every hour. In my case, I have a 50-lb thrust motor with a 100AH battery, and at top speed # 5, I only have 2 hours of cruising, as my 50-lb-thrust motor uses up 50 amps every hour. At # 1 setting, my motor uses up only 10 amps per hour, giving 10 hours cruising time. Many factors affect variations in individual cases, such weight, wind, and waves.

Just an FYI it’s not the tide chart that’s wrong it’s there’s a difference between tide and current. Even thought the current was still moving in the “out” direction the water was coming in. There places I fish were the current doesn’t change for 2 1/2- 3 hours after tidal change.
@FishyAngler

You probably right. It’s a river after all where current is present at all times. It’s when tide overcomes the current, water flow is changing. Thanks for pointing that out.

When testing its always best to check the voltage a lot and when its around 70% turn around cause youll need the rest of the power to get back. The bms will shut down before the battery is actually dead and if you pull a lot of amps as the battery is low the mbs goes into protection mode...if you would've been able to plug the battery into a chager (just for a second) and ran the motor at a low speed you would've been able to continue using your motor

We both pick flat days with no wind to get a base number. The difference was in the hull shape. I have a Hobbie, and he's got an ocean kayak ultra. My Hobbie is like pushing a truck thru the water whole his hull design is narrower and tapers off nicely in the front to slice the water like butter. What a test... The voltage for lifep04 is not a good way to see the capacity... (it has a very liniar discarge curve, the voltage is the same for long period) Use a watt meter to see much of the capaticity is used... When i charge a battery, i use a charger which can show many watt you have charged on the battery. When discarging at watt-meter tell you how musúch is used...

That test was my first attempt to play with lithium battery a year ago. Since then I use ammeter and now I know exactly the battery lasts. With normal fishing it lasts all day in our ponds. Thank you for watching.

Looks like you expelled your reserve capacity of 144min @ 25 amps. Pulling that hard for that long is a risky play, one speed setting lower than full throttle you could make it to your 10v shutdown. Pulling full load however is causing the early shutdown to prevent overdraw recovery from damaging the battery. You can run slower and still cover the same distance over a longer period of time- your distance traveled does not directly affect your AH as you will be drawing less amps over a longer period of time versus more amps over a shorter period of time- distance traveled will remain nearly constant.

Well, that was the torture test for the battery. I wanted to push it. I fish with that battery all day with some juice left at the end with normal use.

even if you go low or high you are still using the same amount of amps from the trolling motor switch , change it o a pmw that you can dial the power so no loss of power by heat...you can get more time from your battery if you make some modifications to the standard trolling motor, plenty of yt videos to explain it here ...I knew you went too far one way on that small battery even before it died !...lol

Why run these tests. Just calculate amp draw battery ah to get your run time. People that claim to last a.week without charge have no idea what they're doing.

how long will 1/2 speed last?
@FishyAngler

Speed 2 draws 8-9 amps. Speed 3 - around 15 amps. So, speed 3 should last 3-3.5 hours. Speed 2 - 4-5 hours.
