I was inspired by a little guy to finish all my old projects.It's tough to watch a kid see an old vintage rc and not be able to drive it.So i have been fixing all my old cars one by one.He has starting driving them and having a blast.They sit no more.If he breaks something you make it.

Great video. I also have a large collection of vintage RC cars, also 3 full size cars, two of which are old & hard to get parts for so I know what its like. The Fiat Strada was called a Strada here in the UK, they also made a Abarth version.
@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! What older cars do you have? Yes that is correct, all English speaking countries got the "Strada" vs the "Ritmo", not to be confused with the current Fiat Strada that shares only the badge font, lol. I am planning on making the Abarth from a standard 3 door I recently picked up. These are rare as hens teeth in the states as Fiat hardly sold any here due to demand in local (EU) markets. US versions also looked very different (mine have EU bumpers installed) but I genuinely love them. Truly an underrated and forgotten car.

I have a pair of CC01s from the original run in the 1990s. I love them. Cutting the “brick” off the front helps significantly. Locking the front and rear diff does too. A small lift kit helps too. 3 inch shocks in front maybe with a 1/4 inch spacer on top and 4 inch shocks in back will increase ground clearance. The GPM steering makes a world of difference if you have a high mileage rig like mine. If you want to crawl like I do with one of mine, a 45 turn motor and a gear reduction unit are the way to go. MIP cvds from a TA02 fit the front perfectly.

@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. Yes, the Fiats do look like Rabbits. Volkswagen used the front drive Fiat 128 to help develop the Golf/Rabbit. The 128 was the car that turned into the Ritmo/Strada so they in fact have the same lineage. Then, Chrysler used the Golf to design the Talbot Horizon & Dodge Omni...talk about a weird series of evernts...

Alberto, always a pleasure to indulge in the hobby with you via the KZfaqs. I am similarly afflicted with a quickly growing Tamiya collection (and vintage German 1:1 cars). I am currently overseas for a little while and brought with a CC01 Unimog and a MF01X G-wagen to trail around. You'd expressed a modest amount of disdain for the CC01, with tinkering it is great fun and durable. Lock the diffs, or soft-lock them with silly-putty and the off-road capability goes up quickly. The stock tires are hard as a rock, I am using the "Rock-grabbers" but I see you already had a better set also. Lowering the gearing would be a huge improvement, though currently not possible without cutting into the battery compartment using the commercial gear reduction units. MF01, yeah... I haven't cracked the nut on that one yet, it has stayed very, very clean.. and unused. Keep up the amazing work and thanks again for your part in getting the MIP ball-diffs to market.
@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and the info on the CC01. I think I have started with a bit of a turd to be honest. The car has been miserable in part to some electrical issues it had when I initially got it (not the chassis' fault) as well as massive amounts of chassis damage that I have addressed. I was looking for a tow truck chassis that I could use when hiking. I wanted something with a low CG that could tow all my hiking water and the little trailer to hold trash (my daughter is constantly cleaning as we walk, lol) and my High Lift had gotten poor at that thanks to the 4 link I installed and completely ruined it. I think the locked axles like you mention will help too. I also have the unimog shell that I plan on making major upgrades for! Thank you and it was my pleasure to kick off that MIP Diff work! Man that changed the ORV's for me!

Hi. First of all, really enjoyed the video. Stumbled upon this as I've just started looking at Tamiyas again to relive my youth and a hobby to enjoy with my (soon to be 7yo) son. I'm just at the 50min mark and had to pause to type this.....OMG! That Nikko Turbo Panther! I'm sure that was the very first RC car I ever had as well! I guess I must have been maybe 9 or 10 when I got it, so around about 1988. I really don't remember it being fast at all though (and I did know about the transmission switch), in fact I later had a friend with a Grasshopper and another with a Hornet and I'm sure they were comfortably faster. I quickly grew out of the Nikko, decided it was crap, and moved on to Tamiya's and various other kit based RC cars. Mental seeing the Nikko in your collection and the fondness you have for it :-)

You should have either Jay Leno Garage, Petrolicious, Doug DeMuro or The Smoking Tire do a video/review of your Pangra. I bet any one of those channels would jump all over an opportunity to film a review with your Ford Pangra. Just a thought, but it would be really cool, and a great way to document a fun experience involving the car.

Nice collection! The CC-01 is my favorite trail runner crawler RC for going up in the mountains with , see my videos, I had other crawler trail runners but they just are not as fun a s the CC-01 the size of it and the smaller tires that you can buy at like 4 inches makes it awesome and makes running it challenging which is nice. I have a 1981 Z28 you can see in my videos....I would much rater fix up a RC than the real thing because the real things are never ending projects! LOL!!

Dude I love the Pangra. Never heard of it until this. I like the Toyota. I had a 90 that fell apart after 300k due to New England salt. I now collect pre 1997 OBD2 vehicles lol. Full size trucks in particular. I’m also a stereo, firearm, and model train addict. So I’m perpetually broke. I’m calling it quits in 2020 so I can acquire a wife. If I don’t have to go fight 1 last time. Oh I also just bought my first Lunch Box since I was too poor as a kid lol. Got the bearings and extra speed control in case it wasn’t included. Going to find your store now to get the diff locker and the center brace thing that keeps it from slapping. Will wait on those before I start assembly. Learning much from your videos and like your style when discussing models like Hornet, Grasshopper, and lunchbox etc. I can appreciate them for what they are. I’m a cringer not a crasher lol. I take care of my things so I also like when you speak of operator types when speaking on your 3D printed parts. I’ve typed too much lol. Take care.

Nice collection!! I only have one RC - A Lunchbox I built a month ago and I drive it every chance I get. I got the 3D printed Trans Brace from you and that thing is a vast improvement when going from reverse to forward, and way easier to install than the "3rd shock mod"

I had. Nikko Turbo Panther as well. My Aunt’s Japanese Foereign exchange student gave it to me for Christmas when I was 12 back in 1989. I pretty much destroyed it. The frame sections of the body would crack easily as I recall. It was a blast though with NiCads. Eventually I moved on to RC aircraft and did that for 28 years. I pretty much just do scale modeling at the moment. I live in Japan now and just ordered a Tamiya Hornet RTR for my birthday. But I have very nostalgic feelings for that Nikko!!!

AMPRO Engineering Nikko still makes toy RC stuff. I occasionally see them in toy stores over here. There was another turbo buggy that I think used the same chassis. Two of my friends had them when I had the Panther. The problem was the transmitters were on the same frequency as I recall so we couldn’t race them.

It's a shame Novak isn't still around. Their stuff was the best for years in the late 80's and all of the 90's. I used to be in carpet racing. Everything back then was carbon fiber but nearly unbreakable. The motors were all brushed which was very cool. Because there's a lot of things you can do to them and make them scream. To be competitive the batteries had to be matched to get the best power and time out of them. We would buy cases of batteries and check every single one for max voltage then you would put all the ones that either matched or were really close to matched and make packs. 6 or 7 cell was the most you could run. Great times and memories !!!
@AMPROEngineering
@AMPROEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
It really was. They were a great company but they just could not compete with MFG in China. Yeah, you are totally taking me back! It was a lot harder then with those NiCd batteries for sure.

I've also restored 1:1 cars, plus raced them. In fact, I've had so many cars (67!), that once or twice my insurance company asked me if I was a DEALER! And for something I thought I'd NEVER say - that Pinto is COOL!! 😲😄👍👍 But then, that's NO average Pinto. I've got a question/request....
