My Leica microscope couldn't do video so an upgrade to a new AmScope Simul-Focal stereo 7X to 45X was needed. This video shows the process from unboxing to assembly to operation with full description along the way.

I bought the same SM-4NTP setup that you show in the video. (Although I didn't buy a camera... yet.) I'm using it for micro-soldering work, pc board repair, etc. I purchased the .5x Barlow lens as an accessory because I wanted greater field of view and working distance. This cuts the ultimate magnification in half, but that's ok. After using the .5x Barlow lens for a week or so, I decided to get the .7x Barlow too. That shortened the working distance a bit, but one side-benefit is that I could lower the microscope head a little, and that gave me a more-comfortable viewing angle through the eyepieces. All-in-all, after reading many reviews on the various binocular microscopes of this type, I believe the SM-4NTP is an ideal package for the money.

Thanks for the info! I definitely want to try out what you are describing so I've purchased the .5, .7, and x2 and will do an updated video comparing all of the options and their differences as soon as I receive them. Thanks again!

@@Aggressivefun I don't think you'd like using the microscope with a 2x Barlow. Not only would the field of view be narrower, but the working distance would be halved, compared to no Barlow lens at all. By the way, if you're doing soldering under this microscope, I would definitely recommend using ANY type of accessory lens (even a 1X Barlow which would just keep all specifications for working distance and field of view "stock.") The reason for the accessory lens? It will protect the two objective lenses from any solder-flux fumes, dirt, film, etc. You could probably use an inexpensive 48mm clear photographic lens filter. But that wouldn't have the groove for attaching your ring-light.

Thanks to your hard work and input. A lovely, detailed video with fraction cropped (very negligible though). I too am in line with your saying that it's very hard to look straight while, comtemporarily working with your hands down beneath... Well wishes!!

Very clear video, and timely as I'm looking for a simul-focal zoom stereo scope right now. In South Africa we have Amscope and Llumins, apart from the very expensive brands. The mechanicals are pretty easy, I'm finding that selecting a camera is the most challenging ... hoping to get a well spec'd wifi capable cam. Thanks for showing your new scope and your experience. Most helpful.

Very welcome! Thanks for your comment. I would spend as much as my budget would allow on the best camera. I've also discovered that the highest speed USB port on the computer you input to is the only way to go. My older Windows 7 era laptop worked but was much to slow for video viewing. Lots of lagging behind any movement. My video camera also has no sound so I am working on a solution for that in an upcoming video. Thanks again!

Thank you. In my line of work so many boards are being made with smd caps and resistors that are so small that you just about can't see it with a naked eye. So I'm thinking that my work is going to become under the scope type work before too long. Some traces I have to follow now you can't see without some kind of corrective lenses so I'm hoping this scope will help me there also.

I agree. A microscope is the only way to go. Huge benefit with exactly what you describe. I couldn't do over 90% of my assembly and inspections without one.

I have a several year old version of the same AmScope and what I miss over the Leica and Nikon scopes I used at work is that the zoom doesn't hold focus as I zoom. The other scopes are many thousands more, but I'll keep my eyes open for an older Nikon SMZ-U or similar for a reasonable price. It's been good for my use, which is watchmaking, other than the annoying zoom. I use mine with a 0.5X supplementary lens which gives an excellent field of view and zoom range.

I agree that it is a little annoying but my older Leica model does the same thing so I assumed that it was the norm. Maybe I just need a much more expensive scope to compare! Thanks for watching!

@@Aggressivefun there is a generic HDMI camera from China that I have had my eye one but I know things can be hit or miss there. It's a 14MP I'm tempted to try my luck but may just pay more for amscope. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F332794034037

what is the difference between 7X to 45X OR 3.5X-180X OR 3.5X-90X which one is recommended for phone repair?
@Aggressivefun
@Aggressivefun Жыл бұрын
My setup uses the 7X to 45X and works great for electronics assembly and electronics PCB repair. I would think it would be great for phone repair. The other ranges will give you more magnification but they change your field of few and you may not like the change in the actual workspace that is still viewable.

One more question do you think with the camera and scope you got will it be doable to work using a monitor
@Aggressivefun

I think so. I've done all of my surface mount soldering through a microscope in the past but I've found that with some practice I can do pretty well by watching my laptop screen with the video display. I was very skeptical that I could do the transition at first but I think I might like it better now!

now that you have had your AmScope 7X to 45X Stereo Simul-Focal Microscope are you still happy with it, any pro's or cons that you have found since you have initially gotten it?
@Aggressivefun
@Aggressivefun 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I am! I'm wanting to do a long list of videos with it and I'm constantly running out of time. Lots more KZfaq videos using it and its video capabilities coming very soon. All pro's so far. My only con would be that the camera mount can turn easily if bumped. I've not found a clamp down yet but a small piece of tape may do the trick. All things considered, I'm very happy with it.

It's the SM-4NTP that includes the microscope and dual arm boom stand. The MU500-CK Camera and the LED-144W-ZK were purchased separately. All of the items were purchased off of Amazon and I've include links to the exact items I purchased in the description. They are Amazon affiliate links so I get a little commission if someone actually makes a purchase from the links. Good question!
