Demonstrators protest against Covid measures in Amsterdam despite authorities banning the gathering. Anti-riot police are seen leaving the scene to the cheers of the demonstrators. The Netherlands imposed a new raft of restrictions a week before Christmas with all non-essential bars and shops closed until January 14.

@@mr.z6887 Dude, when the world-class virologists in my country "discovered" the Omicron variant, the rest of the world responded with a serious travel ban ... further crippling an already dying and seriously disabled economy, only to find that the new variant manifests in a mild form (and is probably our best shot at herd immunity). I live in a country where only approximately 35% of the population are vaccinated, I do not see bodies lying in the street and big scale disease as one might expect from a global pandemic. (Although I too have been affected by family members/colleagues dying and contracting long-covid). And further more ... we are accustomed to violent and destructive protests in my country, it is refreshing to see people placing flowers on the police vans instead of throwing rocks at and torching them. That is why I support the people of Europe with their protests ... as I also recognise that their struggle today may become our struggle of tomorrow.

The economy is bleeding and we don’t need infections from abroad. Wait until summer , be safe and don’t visit during our national lockdown🦠 we love tourism but lockdowns are killing our local economy.
