Comment from Japan. I did the same journey pre-COVID 2019. The scenery and train trip was great. At the boader on Rouses Point, the train stoped for 1.5 hours. Every person without US and Canadian citizens was gathered into a dinning car. At there I've gotten an immigration clearance.

I've taken this train several times. One can also take bus from Montreal to Albany, and then take the train from there, earlier in the morning.

The Amtrak Adirondack is a great long-distance train Mark. My son & daughter did the same journey pre-COVID & loved the scenery & the train trip. You were fortunate to do this trip now as I understand it is often not running due to track issues, especially on the Canadian side. I recall in the past they used to connect an old drome car, so passengers could appreciate the view, for part of the journey. When my son & I did the Maple Leaf service (some 15 years ago) from NY city to Toronto we didn't have to get off the train at the Canadian border - we did have to fill out a card & were asked some questions by the Canadian Customs & that was it. Whereas now I understand you have to detrain & bring your baggage with you. I flew out of Ottawa to Chicago back then & caught Amtrak's South West Chief from Chicago to LA in a bedroom car - great trip. Although I recall 2 DEA officers knocked on my door prior to departure & asked for ID, and began to inspect my bags - apparently drugs are often smuggled on board long-distance trains & I met the profile - traveling alone, and only purchased my ticket a couple of hours before the journey & had no checked baggage. I also recall one asking me what was the capital of Australia when I replied Canberra he said no it was Sydney - I wasn't going to argue as I have been told they can remove you from the train!

Great video, Mark, I’m actually going to take this train northbound on an adventure across Canada, and eventually your country of Australia Going up to Canada first to Montreal for a few nights before I take one of the VIA trains over to Toronto. Then go from Toronto to Vancouver on the Canadian. Before I bought a flight with Air Canada, from Vancouver, all the way to Brisbane. Going down under to experience the Ghan & Indian Pacific. I will be doing both trains in both directions. Starting in Darwin and going south to Adelaide and returning. Before going over to Sydney on an overnight flight. So I can go from Sydney to Perth and back. Before I fly from Sydney all the way to Dallas Texas on my way back to the USA Thanks again for this look at the Adirondack service. This is one Amtrak trip. I’ve never done and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve never seen the new train hall in New York City. Definitely need to check it out for myself before I head north to Canada.

At least when I did it in September of this year, Canadian customs is pretty much the same as the U.S.: guards come on board and work row by row. You only step off the train (at a little miniature platform next to a shed next to a road border crossing) if they need to ask you additional questions or whatever. I had one person go inside during my trip and they came out a while later

The train uses a secondary line to Rouses Point, they should use the CP line, sure it goes to Windsor Station instead of Central Station, but it is better maintained than the CN line
