Some people don't understand that there is very few roads within plant city that don't have railroad crossings. It would probably be impossible to have a downtown parade without crossing a few.

Nice video man! I like the angles, and the fact you showed the entire train! Here in Bakersfield CA our Christmas Parade doesnt cross over any of the 3 remaining at-grade rail crossings (L Street and N Street along the BNSF line and 30th Street along the UP line), but our arena (Rabobank Arena) is next to the N street crossing any you have to cross the tracks to get to the main parking lot and before the city put in a pedestrian bridge fans leaving a hockey or basketball game or other event would have up to 20-30 min wait to cross because the trains going westbound have to stop 2x to switch the tracks as they maneuver through downtown. Many would get impatient. It seems as if everyone in this video is patiently but anxiously watching the trains go by as they wait to see the parade. I love to watch trains go by when i get a chance (i live near the BNSF line that goes through downtown Bakersfield and through the northwest part of town (where i live) on its way to Hanford and Fresno to our north). I know that is off subject but i wanted to share it with you.

this reminds of a parade that I saw in Fillmore a few years ago. they had to stop because a train was coming by, and it happened when a marching band was marching through the railroad crossing. the band was split into two. luckily, no one was hurt.

This actually happened in my hometown's Christmas parade last year. One Amtrak train and then a long freight train.

First off; what I've said many times, (on other parade/train videos) towns SHOULD NOT route parades over active railroad crossings. The incident in Midland, Texas, (about five ? years ago) should be a warning! Second; A requested slow down for a town event doesn't always make it to the affected trains in quick order. How far in advance was this request? A few days, a few hours? The channels of message relaying can and does take time. This would be low on the priority list, below normal railroad business. I don't know the particulars regarding this event, but I'll refer back to my first statement!

Great video and probably my greatest fear from when I was in marching units cause I was always on a flank. Thankfully the town I marched in where able to work times out with the area railroad, NW I believe.

Living in iowaim more surprised by people being able to walk around in short sleeves in December. Here in iowa we would have a ton of snow and temps of 0 with windchills below that lol

When "visitors" get "bent" a train is going through "hick town USA" they're in. This train line is crossing main street. Check out LaGrange KY where the train runs down the middle of mainstreet !

Great video but trains do have priority over a parade. The thing is trains have to jockey for time on the a single line because they must make time for another train going the other direction. Just in case you didn't know that....

Passenger trains have different speed restrictions than freight. And typically all speeds including restrictions are faster than freight.

I'm also going to add that Csx Overrides the speed restricituons if the train is high priorty on a tight time limit.

So do they design these parade routes so that the trains are part of the experience? Surely (not Shirley) there has to be other options for a parade route so that trains don't interrupt and the temptation of idiots being idiots won't be there...as much. But otherwise, great video as always, Alan! Oh and you have human crossing gate imitators now. Check out Longmont Railway's channel. But I also shouldn't talk. I recently made a video of my 8 year old son getting hit on the head by a lowering crossing gate at the Denver Zoo!

Nice K5L on that CSX dash-8. An NS leader on a CSX train is odd, like a BNSF leader on a UP train; you almost never see that.

At night even?!?! This town should be sued by parade participants for public endangering and negligence this never should have been done at night. The speed restriction? Oh yea a person or float gets stuck on the track that will give the train plenty of time to stop (if it is for 1 mph).

Not following speed restriction? Going about the same speed during the monthly Strawberry Classic cruise in car show. Also , freight trains generally do run slower , make more frequent stops, etc... Passenger trains are on a tighter schedule and run faster.

well these guys have a schedule to keep they are going to keep it especially if he was already late? well they need to change the route why have it where the trains use that track that much time a day and night then they get blame for not going slow its crazy

I don’t believe Amtrak follows speed restrictions I do believe those are only applies to freight trains and not passengers
