Here is another full rear view excursion ride on Amtrak 196 from Washington, DC to NY Penn Station on Wed 5/3/23. This is the full daytime run, the 196 excursion i did in the winter was mostly dark. Enjoy the daytime high speed excursion in 4K if w.e device you’re using supports it

My grandmothers house is directly on the right at 28:22! 🙌🏾 There is also a bridge intersecting Frederick & South Hilton st (shown shortly beforehand), I used to go to the opening when I was little and watch the trains come through.

I didn’t quite see a house or an opening at the 28:22 mark, at that mark yea i actually pass under 2 bridges at 28:22 im assuming that’s the Frederick & South Hilton St you’re referring to

Nice video, thanks for capturing the whole thing! I gotta say, this portion of the NEC makes the old New Haven section look like a joke...the PRR sure knew how to build a nice straight right of way!

To play devil's advocate, the PRR didn't have to contend with the craggy, moraine-filled geology of New England when craving out their right of way! Given the same geological and technological circumstances, I doubt the PRR would've done any better than the New Haven in making their mainline less curvilinear.

thanks for the work,,,,a near three hour trip standing and filming,,,,,only true passion can enable the feat..........I waited for the ride to get up to newark station.......Hell I'm 73.....back in the 1990's there was no airport station.....Anyway,,,I'm from Bklyn NY....hung out in Manhattan ,,and when free , took the trains out to Jersey.......,,,Many days ; hung out in Queens at Sunnyside........thanks again................Today I live in Pittston PA.....and have lots of frieght rail history to keep me happy,,,,plus Steamtown......

WOW, I just saw where this passes thru Claymont Delaware heading north starting around 1:13 coming into the Wilmington DE station for a stop. 1:18 is coming thru Holly Oak, I-495 on the right & the Delaware river on the left, 1:19:53 is the abandoned switch tower that used to control the PRR / Conrail freight yard. Watch as the track goes elevated to cross over the two inside tracks that went into the freight yard, this is around 1:20:00. At 1:21:20 is the old Claymont DE station. This is on a deadly curve. Many people have been killed crossing the track instead of going under the tracks thru the tunnel. This was a local stop for SEPTA commuters. At 1:21:35 is the new station that has been completed since this video was made. This has an overhead crosswalk so all should be good now. This new station is just about on the DE / PA state line. At 1:22:30 is the Marcus Hook SEPTA station in PA. Dave KC3AM

What do you mean “non-Acela train which skips Trenton” ? That’s 1. And 2. All Acelas skip Trenton but they’re not mon stop

@@jayydarailfaner549 let me reword it. I wasn’t aware that any Regionals skipped Trenton. I thought Trenton was a required stop for all of them as well as all long distance trains going through. I liked your other video showing a Regional skipping stops between New Haven and Providence. That’s also very rare.

Nice video! I've always wondered why in the Maryland section of the corridor 1 track is mainly used for southbound trains while the other 3 (or 2 going from BWI-New Carrolton) are used mostly for northbound... Quite a mystery for me.

Mainly because New Carrollton has 2 tracks between there & DC tracks 2 & 3, north of New Carrollton there’s a switch called Carroll Interlocking that adds a 3rd track for MARC trains to switch over to track 1 & Amtrak trains run down track 2 that’s the reason why. I kinda wished between BWI Airport & New Carrollton was quadrupled tracked

I am always Fascinated by USA and Amtrack Grand Central has 44 Platforms but Penn with 11 is the main station these day i Know it a though station but its access is very poor by small tunnels .and i feel for all the Amtrack permeant way staff working in them tunnels to keep the train moving. but i have to say like British Railways and London Underground .the Tunnels which are vey old Hudson about 110 years old and UK about 100/150 + years old they built them very well to last so long.

The original electrification from 1910 to Manhattan Transfer (now Hudson Yard) was third rail. It was cut back on the Jersey side to the tunnels when the catenary went up around 1932. Still in place for work trains, or rescue by a Amtrak P32ACDM.
