From February 1st, 2022. Haven’t seen Amtrak southbound train #303 from Chicago to St. Louis like this since forever. So glad I had the day off work today to be able to see it. It’s my pleasure to be able to share this with you all today. After watching Amtrak eastbound train #314 arrive and depart kirkwood station after 1:30 pm, I drove to downtown Saint Louis to Cerre street and got there in plenty of time to see and shoot this cool video of Amtrak southbound Lincoln service train #303 arriving into its final station stop of St. Louis gateway station from Chicago well ahead of schedule. Todays Amtrak #303 is led by a Siemens charger engine #4624, then an amfleet I cafe car up front for food and beverage service, then behind it is an all solid consist of Amtrak’s new Midwest Siemens venture coaches numbered in the 4000 series. It’s obvious due to the amfleet cafe car on this train that amtrak does not have any of the new Siemens Midwest Venture cafe/lounge cars on its roster yet but hopefully we will be seeing those soon. This train showed arriving into Saint Louis at 2:28 pm 22 minutes early. I also watched amtrak #304 the northbound Lincoln service train depart out of St. Louis gateway station right on time at 3:00 pm going back to Chicago and it also had one of the new Siemens 4000 series venture coaches on the very end of it today too plus 5 regular amtrak passenger cars for a total of 6 cars but sorry to say, I didn’t get any video of it. Hope you all like this video of mine. Feel free to give it a thumbs up and comment on it too if you would like to. Enjoy! Jason.

This nicely shows how much more voluminous the new cars are compared to the Amfleet. Part of the additional roof space is used for roof mounted air conditioning units.

Yeah I agree, and that is very awesome plus so interesting to know about these new amtrak Midwest Siemens venture cars. I’m sure these new venture cars will do good even during the winter with inside heating when it’s cold out and just as good during the late spring & summertime with air conditioning summer when it gets hot outside too.

@@winterjason81 Working air-conditioning will be essential and I hope they have tested it well. When I took the "Wolverine" train a few years ago i was booked into a Horizon car without working airconditioning so I moved to the café car for most of the trip.

Agree, and thank you as well for your nice comment. I myself have not ridden on board these new Siemens venture cars yet but hopefully someday in the future I’ll get the chance to on some of the many other amtrak single level short distance trains that operate out of Chicago. They have also been trying out a venture car or two on the St. Louis to Kansas City Missouri amtrak Missouri river runner trains in order to see if they can operate them on those daily trains in the future too as time goes by.

I wonder if sometime Amtrak will be reconverting the Illini and Saluki service back to single level with more horizon and amfleets available.
@winterjason81
@winterjason81 2 жыл бұрын
I’m almost certain they will indeed do that but my guess for now is that as long as the colder or chilly winter and air sticks around here in the Amtrak Midwest corridors until springtime amtrak will still operate superliner cars on the Chicago to Carbondale Illinois trains as the toilets in the superliner cars don’t usually freeze up as easily in the wintertime compared to that of the single level amfleet and horizon cars. Hopefully this answers your question. Thanks for your comment to by the way. I appreciate it and being able to help you out.

Exactly. I’ve noticed that too with this amtrak train. It’s almost like watching some clip or clips from Sesame Street here on KZfaq where they ask you in a fun song they sing to figure out which one of several things is not like the other things or which one doesn’t belong with them cause it’s not the same. Of course if the kids or adults guess correctly then they are of course absolutely right and have done a good job at solving the problem.

@winterjason81
@winterjason81 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not totally sure on that. I only do volunteer work for amtrak so I’m not an actual amtrak agent. You should probably try and ask any amtrak male or female ticket agent at any amtrak staffed train station like here in my hometown city of St. Louis Missouri at gateway station or up in Chicago at union station about that. As of now I can tell you that I’ve only seen them operating these newer Siemens venture cars on this particular amtrak Lincoln service train which is amtrak 303 south from Chicago to St. Louis leaving Chicago at 9:25 am in the morning then arriving into St. Louis at 3:00 pm in the afternoon then it returns back north to Chicago in the exact same day from St. Louis as amtrak 306 at 5:40 pm then it arrives back into Chicago union station at 11:05 pm at night. Hopefully this works for you. Thanks for your comment by the way.

Definitely great! I can't wait to see the old outdated Amfleet cars getting replaced because they're pretty ugly
@winterjason81
@winterjason81 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s already been happening now since earlier this year as amtrak trains 303 and 304 from Chicago to St. Louis have now become daily through service trains in both directions from Kansas City Missouri all the way to Chicago union station with some minor schedule adjustments at every station stop. They were both given new train numbers 318 eastbound from KCY to CHI, and 319 westbound from CHI to KCY and are now called the combined Missouri River Runner/Lincoln Service trains. They typically consist of a Siemens charger engine as the leader, then a couple of viewliner phase 3 painted baggage cars, an amfleet cafe, and then typically 4 of the new Siemens venture coaches like what we see here in this video. So both trains typically have 7 cars total on the entire route between Chicago Illinois and Kansas City Missouri unless they have a private car or something special added to the consist. Thanks as always for your comment and I hope my comment here was helpful.

Yeah I know I’ve heard lots of not so good stuff about the seats in these new Siemens venture coaches from others on social media or Facebook. Pretty much part of the dull interior building and assembly at the Siemens plant. Kind of a bummer they aren’t all that comfortable compared to the coach seats in the regular amfleet and horizon cars. Only good thing I’ve seen and heard about them on Facebook and social media is they have lots of extra legroom.
