Our travels on the Amtrak Surfliner start in Fullerton Ca with our first stop in San Juan Capistrano.
We contacted the Amtrak phone number to get everything booked up. Realized that you do need to book each stop and each pickup. If you booked Fullerton to San Diego, you would not be able to hop off at different stops to explore... you need to book your stops.
Our first stop in San Juan Capistrano and we choose to give ourselves 4 hours before our next train ride. We planned to visit Zoomars Petting Zoo and avoid doing the mission since we were traveling with a 4 and 6 year old. Both the mission and the zoo are within a 5 minute walk from the train stop. You also have a great selection of restaurants and nice little shops to check out. We chose to eat at El Adobe which was fantastic Mexican food joint.
