Congratulations to Toronto Zoo! A cub is so adorable as we recently found in the Mumbai Zoo. So happy we were that we did a small video feature for our channel. Tiger cubs are a must watch and especially when new-borns are difficult to observe in the wild, zoos provide a great opportunity. The Amur tiger and its cubs are even more difficult to find in the wild. We have visited the Indian forests of Tadoba, Bandhavgarh, Tekkady, Bandipur, Kabini, Corbett and others, but never sighted a small cub less than 3 months. We have, of course, seen several large Royal Bengal tigers in these regions and were lucky to film it for our channel. Real close encounters!

Our family used to go to the National Zoo in DC every summer. When I think back to those days in the hot DC summers and the animals in cages, pacing back and forth with so little room to move, it breaks my heart. These days zoos are so MUCH better!!! Now it's like the visitors are contained and the animals have freedom to roam!! How far we have come!

Agree. Small low-budget zoos cause sadness. But children and adults all over the world, even in the smallest and poorest regions of the planet, want and are always happy to see real animals collected from everywhere. If you are a city dweller, then you probably know how kids love meeting animals living on farms. City children have not seen other pets in their lives except cats and dogs. Seeing a chicken, a duckling, a goatling for them is a whole holiday and a sea of unforgettable impressions. The same is with visiting zoos, where thousands of representatives of the world of flora and fauna from various climatic zones are gathered. And to see them not in a picture or on TV is a great pleasure, which became available to both children and adults, in general, not so long ago.

Is there a reason why predators have such big paws when they are still so young? I can imagine that there is not a big need to run away in that stage if you have a mother, who is that powerful. And they can balance out their body on four legs instead of two.

I beleive tiger cubs need big claws for tree climbing. Mila started climb on a tree at the outside playground at age of 3-4 months. You can virtually enjoy this in newly released video "The Most Memorable Summer Moments at the Toronto Zoo 2021", start time = 1:24:43 min. Some interesting facts about tigers' claws. "Tigers have large padded feet that enable them to silently stalk prey in the Asian jungles. The claws of the tiger are up to 10 centimeters (4 in) in length and are used to grasp and hold onto prey. Each paw has four of these claws and one specialized claw called a dewclaw. A dewclaw is located farther back on the foot and thereby does not touch the ground when walking. Dewclaws function similarly to thumbs in that they are used for grasping prey and aid in climbing. Tiger claws are retractable in that ligaments hold them in a protective skin sheath when their not being used. The ligaments are in a relaxed position when the claws are retracted thereby expending no musculature effort. Tigers retract their claws to ensure that they remain sharp for times when they are needed and to tread silently up to unsuspecting prey. Other ligaments will extract the claws when attacking prey or defending themselves which does require musculature effort. Tiger claws are curved which enables them to superiorly grasp and hold large prey and climb trees head-first. However, the claws' curvature, the tiger's size and weight is a great hindrance in climbing down from trees. Tigers must either crawl backwards or jump down from trees, making them the most inferior climbers of the big cat family."

Yes, and this is a global problem. It can be solved in two main ways: 1. By making the decisions at a high political and business level. 2. By increasing the educational level of the population. Zoos are just those organizations that, through exhibiting animals and educational programs for kids and adults, bring information to the general public about how important it is to protect nature. Toronto is one of the North American leading organizations for the conservation and reproduction of endangered, special care and uprooted animals and plants. In the recently released video “Summer's Most Memorable Moments at the Toronto Zoo 2021”, you can see a group of kids from the Toronto Zoo Summer Camp, Start Time=4:30 min. They are participants of the zoo entertaining and educational program, where kids not only walk around the zoo and observe animals, but also receive a lot of interesting and useful information about them.

@@LordofDarknessX Agree, even the best music can't replace the living sound of nature. Unfortunately, in this particular video it wasn't possible to attach a real animal sounds, because the footage was done through indoor pavilion window. It's not an open outdoor space. So no sound at all :) In my opinion, video without any sound is VERY boring.
