Lyrics:
I will be walking one day
Down a street far away
And see a face in the crowd and smile
Knowing how you made me laugh
Hearing sweet echoes of you from the past
I will remember you
Look in my eyes while you're near
Tell me what's happening here
See that I don't want to say goodbye
Our love is frozen in time
I'll be your champion and you will be mine
I will remember
I will remember you
Later on
When this fire is an ember
Later on
When the night's not so tender
Given time
Though it's hard to remember darlin'
I will be holding
I'll still be holding to you
I will remember you
So many years come and gone
And yet the memory is strong
One word we never could learn
Goodbye
True love is frozen in time
I'll be your champion and you will be mine
I will remember you
So please remember
I will remember you
I will remember you
I will remember you
I will remember you

This song was playing when I lost my first patient as a nurse. That was 30 years ago I will always remember Michael who died of aids. He was the sweetest man I ever met. His parents were in their 80s and no one ever came to visit him. His elderly father finally came and he died the next night. Thank you Amy for giving me a way to remember him.

@ Brian Camp, totally agree. I turned 20 in 1982, from then until I hit 40, they were halcyon days. No mobile phones, people actually spoke with each other, real connections, real friendships. Also, had the best music from early, mid 70's, right up to mid 90's...then it all turned to crap. With some exceptions, Pink, Dave Gray, Boy & Bear, Michael Buble, Josh Groban. Cheers from down under, Australia 🍺

@@robertlind1511 No, please don't feel that way. I've had two suicides in my family, and understand the despair and hopelessness they felt. And how helpless I felt to not have been able to stop them. Every time I heard this song I remember my fiancé who passed in a car accident back in 86. Sweetheart I will remember and missed you all my life. I have dated my share of men but it’s not the same- my first love. Still single. Probably will not find another like him. So sitting here alone listening to this masterpiece. I have on cassette and cd, I’m so glad I kept them . When I think of him I play this song. The only problem I have during the song is it broke my heart and I start to cry so hard like the day my father took me to his funeral which I didn’t want to attend. My father told me to go so I will believe. RIP. I hope to reunite with you one day. I attended one of her concerts in the late 90s. I was so emotional I couldn’t go to any of her concerts since. Good bye Mitch.

My mother passed away August 1991, then my dad a year later in August. I had not heard this song until a few months after my mother passed away. It was as if she was speaking to me through the lyrics and at the same time I was speaking to her. There are certain songs that wrench your heart in ways that can’t be adequately described. This song is one of those songs. It is in some ways a piece of my mother just as her smile was part of her. I will forever hold this song close to my heart. It gives to me a sense that my parents are more close to me than ever before. My mother’s last words to me before passing were “from my heart to yours.” ❤️

You expressed that so beautifully. Just lost my Dad in May...on his birthday. Am especially drawn to older songs right now, while remembering/thinking, "...when this was popular, Dad was still alive...and younger and healthier." My adult life was just beginning when this song was popular, while he was just becoming a senior. God bless you.

She is hell of a songwriter. I’ve just listened to her entire catalogue and it is more than impressive. Their is a complexity to it that doesn’t exist today. Key changes, alternate chord voicing, tempo shifts, lyrics with actual effort, numerous vocal techniques now extinct in the pop landscape, and numerous opportunities for every instrument to have a chance to shine…what happened?

Amy wrote and recorded this song to be used in the Karate Kid 3 movie (ergo "I'll be your champion and you will be mine"). The song was ultimately rejected. KK3 was a flop, so thankfully, this song ended up not being associated with a terrible movie. Instead, it's a bittersweet and sentimental song that we all love.

Little River Band - Listen to your heart, was the song that got chosen instead. Now, I love both songs but I think they made the right choice. Either way at least the film had a great ending theme and at least Amy Grant's song still had a lot of success because I love that one almost as much.

The way music can make you time travel is fascinating. I remember a year after high school breaking up with my first love. There is no heart ache like the first time you experience it. She met someone else, she moved on and I reached the acceptance stage, you break up with the grief and the person. It’s a weird feeling . I remember this song playing in my car on the way home after talking to her for the first time after not seeing each other for months. You mourn someone you saw everyday and suddenly the wound gets ripped open fresh and you start over . She met someone new, but she gave me that mixed message she felt like she had to move on with someone new but her eyes told me where her heart was. Soon after I found out she got pregnant and got married and life went on. Things left unsaid, a love story not completed and no closure . That is the way life works sometimes. Now that I’m older I don’t feel the pain nor do I care. Through time I’ve learned you don’t stay with the first person you meet at that age, it usually ends in disaster. But the music when you hear it is like a time capsule, it takes you back to that time for a moment before you learned all the life skills that got you through that heartache, that feeling when you accepted it was over even though you knew there was hope but you know to let go. “True love is frozen in time” that line is what made me sob alone in my car, twenty years old so long ago. When the song ends you are back to present time but for a brief moment you can feel the sting and raw emotion .

I'm sure you have shed many years, behind clothes doors, shared victories, triumph, and losses. Yet you remained strong with your faith. Say hi to my beloved Granny. Who also passed while it rained, but the last thing her eyes seen was a double rainbow in the sky, which represents God's eternal promise to Noah that He would not flood the earth. This album -The Collection was my lifeline to God after my twin sister died in’88. She sang what I felt but couldn’t say back then. Thank you-Amy Grant.

I absolutely LOVE this song! I was driving cross country with my then GF, Peg, and at the same time this song came out, Geoffrey Dahmer came out as well. So, whenever I hear this song, the lyrics become: I will dismember you... LOL! Praise God!

First off, I wanna personally dedicate this song to both my late Mother and Older brother who passed away less than two years apart from each other. RIP:To both my dear sweet Mother and Older brother, for that I'll always remember y'all both for giving me the courage and strength to stand on my own, and may we see each other again in Heaven.

The 90's were so epic, not as flashy as the 80's but deeper, we were finding our selves in a good way. Last good decade imho.
