Jamey Johnson performs “Give It Away” an absolutely mind-blowing performance, live at the House of Blues, Boston, MA, April 9, 2019. Accompanied on background vocals by Melonie Cannon.
"Give It Away" was written by Jamey Johnson with Bill Anderson and Buddy Cannon, and became a huge hit for George Strait in 2006. Jamey Johnson was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country song for "Give It Away" in 2008.
Please support our incredible artists by going out to see them live in concert, buying their albums, telling your friends about them, sharing this video, and purchasing their merch.
Did you know that just one CD or vinyl sale earns more income for an artist than 200 hours of streaming? One $20-$25 album earns about the same as the royalties paid on 5000 track streams. Buy the merch. www.JameyJohnson.com

Not sure Jamey Johnson really counts as underground, but certainly there are more of the wanna-be pop singers than there are Jamey Johnsons and Chris Stapletons. This phenomenon is not new, by the way. Guys like Willie Nelson and Waylon left Nashville because the powers would not let them record their music. I watch a documentary on the Willie Nelson album "Red Headed Stranger" and one record company executive said, "I still want to edit and produce that album". That specific album is on most list of "top all time" and is STILL selling. But they still want to change it! That is what the Jamey Johnson's of the world are up against!

No need to be sorry brother. My youngest son, wife and myself are vets. We cry together almost Everytime we hear that song too. The beginning reminds me of my dad who survived the depression on a farm. The end reminds me of our wedding day. And of course the middle, about my service. I didn't see combat. But I made the best friends I've ever had during my enlistment. 82-89. Field Artillery. US Army. So many had my back. Like no one out here ever has. And several are gone now.

I stopped listening to country music because it lost its sound that I grew up with from the 70s and 80s. My friend told me to look up Jamey Johnson and now I'm in a Spotify rabbit hole of amazingly good country music that isn't about getting shit-faced, which is idiotic or being on a farm when you know the artist is only pandering. I am so happy for good music about the way life really goes.

One of the few artists that really cares about the music anymore and it shows... I'm glad Jamey and a few others still do country music that has the feel and soul that makes it the common man's music..I don't even listen to the radio stations around here anymore it's sad to live 20 miles from Nashville and not be able to find a real country station
@frankmaxfield7025

I'm right there with ya brother if it ain't Jamey or Chris Stapleton I don't want nothing to do with this modern day garbage coming outta Nashville. It's a shame with the talent that went thru that town back in the 90's to see how far removed from country music it's all became these days. I live about 40 miles east of Cincinnati in a little town called hamersville. Literally ain't even got a stop light or even a stop sign in town. But we've got quite a few so called country music radio stations that come out of Cincinnati and at least 2, 1 being B105 that's been around since at least the late 70's or early 80's and the 94.1 the Star that's been around on 1 fm frequency or another since at least the early 90's that I won't even put on my truck radio anymore. We have 2 fm frequency's being 106.7 and 105.9 which are owned by the same station and play the same songs with 1 station being a few min ahead of the other one that play classic country music which a lot of it is the great music I grew up listening to in the late 80's and 90's and those are the only 2 stations that play in my truck unless I'm on 700WLW am talk radio getting current local news sports and politics from some pretty good disc jockeys one of them being Bill Cunningham which is the same guy that had that talk show or whatever it was on TV there for a few years awhile back. But I couldn't listen to that garbage that comes from these new singers wearing their flat billed hats that think they rappers and country singers. Ain't no such thing as a country rapper. Nashville full of all these confused assholes that don't know if they wanna sing rap or country so they try and mix it together and Nashville tries to shove down our throats which ain't gonna happen to this hillbilly. From what I see it ain't gonna happen to a lot of other folks either. So Nashville can keep that bullshit down there in Tennessee and stop sending it up North this way. Us folks around here like to keep it country. Y'all down south call us Yankees but most of the folks around here got deep southern roots that got us ended up north here because our grandparents left the south back in the 50's and 60's to come up here to Cincinnati chasing work to make a living for their families. So they brought the south and it's traditions here up north. Were as country as apple pie, beans, cornbread, and fried taters and grits. You won't have much luck taking the north south but my papaw brought south north.

Yes he's wrote plenty of good songs over the years,Now he pretty much stays on the road all the time,a lot of people wonder why he hasn't came out with new stuff...several years ago he slipped on ice and hit his head,from what doctors say he's fine but it has affected something in his brain to where he can't focus on writing I don't know,somewhere on KZfaq he talks about I don't remember the link.

I’ve liked him forever but your right id love to hear some new stuff from him. That lonesome song and mowing down the roses as well as in color are classics lol!!

Tracy Pridemore where you from in the mountains brother? I’m originally from Pikeville. But it was actually right outside Lexington in Winchester where I live. It was at the Daniel Boone Frontier Festival. Now that I actually think about it lol that was about 10 years ago too lol.. he sang most of the stuff off the lonesome song album and him and Lee Thomas Miller sang “ In Color”. But it was him and James Otto if I’m not mistaken.. But yah he came to Lexington just within the last couple years ago as well. My parents went. I had tickets but couldn’t get off work. My first cousin is actually the lead guitarist for Justin Moore. He comes here to town quite a bit.. Buts crazy how small the world is lol. Comment on a song and someone from the same area as you end up talking with you lol..
