What do you do with your finds, especially the antique broken pottery with ornate raised designs or painted/printed designs? Do you collect these, sell them, or discard them? The reason I ask is I'd be interested in some of them if it's something you don't collect. Thank you.

❤❤. I am owner to my dad’s family’s Century farm. Homesteaded in 1837. I know the approximate location of the original house . A lot of cedar trees to clear but my younger brother and I have been wanting to excavate the area where the house and other buildings were and stake them out as part of our 200th year celebration of our family’s history. Now I really want to find where the outhouse was too! Glad I found your channel.❤️ S. From Peculiar, MO

@@fishinwidow35 That’s a good idea about serving food from recipes of that time. I found a total of 300 books of recipes in the farmhouse. A few of them date back to the mid 1800’s. I haven’t looked through them in several years. Would be fun to have several dishes made , more than likely wild game and vegetables harvested. I also found several hand written health remedies which I recall being thankful that we have modern medicine as the ingredients made me gag🤢.I can’t recall anything specific right now. Thank you😊

My Norsk professor said that when Norwegian immigrants came to Ellis Island they said 'If this is New York, I can't imagine what Decorah looks like!' Glad you moved further east, great find. Have you ever found any outhouse pits going into the mid to early 1800's? You could now and even though this one was great, I can only imagine what could be found in one of those. Likely much less because things were reused back then but, those will be in the area further to the east where you are now in more plentiful amounts I would think.

Theirs you can see the lip of the bottles are all crude and drippy. Also there is tons of bubbles in the glass which I love. Also the colors there most bottles are colored with few being clear and the pictorials are to die for. I so wished we had bottles like that over here. Nice video good haul.

As a bottle (and fruit jar) collector of 50+ years, it was an inventive glass blower who was the real designer of the screw thread for containers - and John L Mason patented it under usurpation. Neither the (unknown) glass blower - nor John Mason - received any profits from the glass industry.

When was the first thread less insulater made
@johnlord8337
@johnlord8337 Жыл бұрын
@@markandrews2942 The first telegraph line was built in 1844 and the earliest glass "pin-type" insulators were based on bureau knobs, and over time became sturdier to fit on a wooden pin. These early insulators are known as threadless insulators, as the internal cavity had no threads and was just held to the pin by friction and tar. Even though they were used by the millions in the mid 1800's, virtually all threadless are scarce today, and most are quite rare. Threaded pintype insulators were developed based on a patent (July 25, 1865) by Louis A. Cauvet for internal threads in the glass and a corresponding threaded wooden pin. The Brookfield Glass Company licensed this patent and started making threaded glass insulators. In the 1860's and early 1870's both threaded and threadless insulators were being made by various glass companies. In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. This event greatly accelerated the expansion of open wire lines and the need for insulators. During this period, both the Telephone and Telegraph companies started to standardize on certain insulator styles. This is the reason that many different manufacturers made the same style insulators. Even with standardization, there were many new styles developed. Most of these were never used in large quantities.
