MBH has an approach that’s more reminiscent of older Let’s Plays, especially the ones that just lacked in-video commentary altogether. Early 2010s incentivized personality and content over taking a game on its own merits

I really miss old school LP channels, the ones where content creators played games they were REALLY passionate about, almost to the point where they turn it into an entertaining walkthrough, keeping track of statistics and progress, paying attention to the story and summarizing plot points for those viewers who might be behind, highlighting fun little behind the scenes trivia details about the game or some rare easter eggs, and most importantly seeing a game through to its ending. I could easily imagine Rambley being an actual character in a kids show. They clearly put effort in the character design, something you don't see all that often in this genre

reminded me a lot of the character designs from the pizza plex in FnaF: Security Breach, and the style of the park's different "sections" around the fountain in the middle reminded me of friendly neighborhood and also poppy chapter 3

The mascot is actually a mascot, like a cartoon character that's gains sentience. As opposed to (I guess) poppy or Fnaf that makes the mascots maniacally evil and obsessively evil; there are lore explanation why but at the same time such unadulterated violence will get boring without prose and style.

Rambly as a character is just genuinely well executed.

Another decrepit location at night that has gone way past its prime and some mascots. Nothing new, but people seem to be attaching themselves to the character. This quirky pseudo horror games are cliché right now.

@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme Compare the dialogue of this character to Freddy in FNAF breach, alongside the dialogue of the other characters in the game. They're all hard wired to have the exact tone, volume and angst without changing despite the world changing around them. The writers in this game were capable of setting up Ramble to start out as cutesy and lovable with a few glitches and stutters due to old software or lack of maintenance. Yet, the second a giant monster bird gets Eren Yeager'd the mask comes full off and the tone shifts. It's not Disney levels of characterization but it success at actually putting the mascots in mascot horror not a Slenderman in a Ken Doll.

@@itsgonnabeanaurfrommenot really. It’s quite charming. The player has a reason to go here that’s interesting. The first opening cutscene tells who we are and we liked to do. The player character despite no face or dialogue has character to them.

It's really well made. And honestly something I could actually see being a popular mascot.

I personally don’t think he’s uncanny at all. A bit unfortunate since this is horror, but it would be weirder if the mascot of a kid-friendly park was creepy. I do like that the comfort his friendliness provides makes it so that sections without him are even creepier, like the lion bit behind the stage.

Apparently the Molly death screen says she mimics words she's heard before, and one of the lines I noticed during the chase was something along the lines of "get back in your cage, little bird". I think it's definitely some kind of experiment situation.

You know, I rarely see the "helper is actually evil" trope be executed in a fun and in character way. It'd be fun to see if they do use this trope in the game, that Rambley becomes evil because it's been so many years and basically doesn't let protag out, uses protag to get more people into the park, regardless of if the park is still dangerous or not. With this implementation, I don't think "evil" Rambley would need a completely different personality. He'd still be the nice and charming raccoon he is, maybe with a more noticeable desperation want for socialisation.

Honestly it kind of reminds me of "The Neighborhood", where the sock friend held back a lot of info but he was never actively malicious to the player.

My personal take is that he’s as in the dark about what happened as you and only has info on how the park should be. He’s discovering just how bad it is alongside you as your bracelet restarts the systems. Maybe he’s a clean backup AI that got loaded as you entered the park and well face his corrupted original later.

Given the pitch height, many may not hear it.

If that's true, then *why* was it implemented? It makes me curious because that implies there's a reason it was added. Maybe a similar occurrence happened.

That would be a good twist, maybe he’s a backup that was unaffected by whatever evil or virus corrupted the rest and loaded upon the arrived of the protagonist. That would explain his lack of knowledge about the state of the park at the start. He’s learning about it all as you and your bracelet bring more and more systems online.

ngl i think it's better than fnaf design wise too. like yes animatronics have been pretty damn horrific even when there was an effort to make them child friendly, but the designs of fnaf ever since the first game didn't really try to be anything remotely child friendly. juniors did a better job at sticking close to the chucky cheese inspo than any fnaf game, and even tho security breach has the friendliest designs it sacrificed the horror entirely for that instead of embracing it

@@faeb.9618 Security breach isn't a horror game though. It's action adventure. It was basically a big setup for ruin which is actually horror. Plus if we started with ruin then we wouldn't have nearly as much attachment to Roxy and Monty. Steel wool have never claimed SB as anything other than action adventure, it's exclusively fans that have done that.

It definitely seems more like they're potentially setting up for more of an unfriendly AI than an outright malicious one. Rambly already let slip he needs a human to authorize certain actions, so we understand his motive for leading the player around. I wonder if maybe he even lured the player there initially somehow over the Internet. Kinda like Atlas in BioShock, but l feel like Rambly will have more of a redemption in the end if production makes it that far.

Unless it's a asdfmovie reference. I doubt it, but just something that came to mind. It could also be because trains are linear and easy to follow and control. As a result, to their AI, it's something easy for them to deal with and appreciate.

honestly, I thought Salem was supposed to be a red herring. Like, they set him(?) up to be the main bad guy with the video game, only for it to turn out to be something deeper than that. Honestly, I'm excited to see where this game goes. It definitely seems to be aiming to be a standout game in the indie horror genre, and if this is anything to go by, it seems to be succeeding in that goal.

It’s a bop, but on the Indie Horror Game End Credits Song ranking, I have to give it second. A World I Built For You just hits different.

Well unique geese is relatively new dev his only other project was a recreation of garten of banban. Probably why it’s cute and charming. The dude is just a newbie making this with some other people having fun.

It doesn't feel like a mascot horror game outside of the chase with Molly Macaw. I'm kind of impressed. It's really high effort and has a unique feeling to it.

@@Cainus44 Instead of a mascot horror it feels more like a horror with mascots. The enemies being meat instead of robots does more than you think to make it feel "fresh" to the genre. "Real world" animals + AI mascot + decrepit old animatronics makes it feel like it would 100% exist in the real world vs "yeah the sentient robots are maliciously evil" which we're a LONG way off. Especially if the game is set in or before the present day. Then an actual character with a personality instead of an A4 page of lore in an extras menu. It is delightfully refreshing.

Ikr? The characters, rides and mascots look kid-friendly but put through years of neglect and deterioration. Definitely a step up from its peers. Like who tf thought whatever mascots that were in Poppy Playtime, Banban or even FNAF would be remotely kid-friendly. They wouldn't have gotten *any* customers from the get go.

That's because Indigo Park was made by an actually passionate youtuber/indie dev. It all stemmed from him joking learning how to make games for a game jam-esk challenge to remake the first chapter of Garten of Ban Ban and make it not shit. He enjoyed it so much, and had ended up making a few dev/artist friends throughout the process, that afterwards he decided to go all in and make his own franchise, and Indigo Park is the result. His channel is called UniqueGeese if you're interested.

I don't know, he also seems genuinely saddened by the state of the park, and eventually comes clean that "the employees stopped showing up, the mascots are...". And the ending song seems to imply that he wants to save his friends (I presume, reprogram them from the skunk's virus), in addition to the earlier cutscene about restoring the park. I think the other mascots are indeed evil, but the Rambley AI (perhaps separate to a Rambley mascot, if there was one) was unaffected due to being confined to the park entrance's computer. It may also be that, as an AI, he is far above any sense of viral infection from a lower form of machine intelligence.

He doesn't want to hurt you, but its unlikely he'll ever let you go either. Loneliness has driven him mad.

Ive had Rambley the Racoon for 5 seconds, but if anything were to happen to him I would cry

I think that, being AIs, the destruction of that body wouldn't permanently hurt Mollie, assuming that it was connected to the "real" Mollie at all. I do wish there was more explanation of what it/she _was_ and why the animatronic was trying to kill you, but well, I suppose Rambley doesn't know.

The dev said chapter was like a pilot. He would make more if people liked it.

For me, I don't think any game can scare me more than Alien Isolation, the original RE2, and Amnesia, so I love this for different reasons. Its theme-park horror, and fits in aesthetic that everything's trying to kill you because its rundown and broken, not supernatural or a cosmic horror story.

I agree that it’s really well made but it’s 100% formulaic. First chapter introduces spooky abandoned place, explore a bit, see a spooky mascot, find some gizmo, get chased, end chapter. Definitely not a bad thing though as long as it’s done well.

@@Wert-eo7sz chapter one was made to be like a pilot the dev himself said if people didn’t like he wouldn’t make other chapters because it wouldn’t be worth the effort for something people don’t like.

@@mydogghost Yeah, I assumed as much. That’s why every mascot horror does the same exact thing for chapter 1. The unfortunate thing is that even if it’s well done, the formula makes it harder to stand out gameplay and story wise.

It’s extremely formulaic. Nothing new, we literally have the same thing in poppy playtime with someone guiding you through a creepy abandoned area who you can’t tell if you can trust or not. Only really notable thing is the the character is charming? Great job for the devs first major work but so far It’s just not scary at all
