WPVI also covers the south part of New Jersey & WABC covers the Central & North part of New Jersey. WEAR covers the Pensacola Florida & Mobile Alabama, WMBB covers Panama City Florida. WJLA TV founded in October 4 1947 and it's licensed to Arlington Virginia

WXYZ used to be full-service ABC - the station was owned by the network - until Wednesday, January 1, 1986, when the FCC required Capital Cities/ABC to divest itself of one of their properties in Detroit (Capital Cities bought out ABC in October 1985); Capital Cities owned radio stations WJR-AM and WHYT-FM (now WDVD). Capital Cities decided to divest itself of Channel 7, which was quickly snapped up by Scripps. *Bad* move. Since then, WXYZ has arbitrarily and blithely blocked out some of ABC's prime time shows in favor of some (boring) local specials and sporting events; the station would either block out the ABC show entirely or otherwise exile it to the wee hours (for example: a Detroit Lions football game once blocked out "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC; WXYZ then chose to air "Dancing" at *2:30 A.M.* the next morning. The football game *could have* been shown on an independent such as WMYD, Channel 20 or WKBD, Channel 50 (or even Bally Sports Detroit)). Thank the Lord I now live in Charlotte, Michigan (between Lansing and Battle Creek), where ABC is on WLAJ, Channel 53 in Lansing and WUHQ-TV, Channel 41 in Battle Creek. Although both stations are owned by Nexstar, Channel 53 and Channel 41 don't seem to have any problems adhering to ABC's prime time schedules. *Very* good.

Interesting fact: WDAZ-TV in Grand Forks is a sister station of WDAY-TV down here in Fargo-Moorhead! In the 1920s, they started WDAY Radio… fast forward to the 1950s is when WDAY signed on as the 2nd tv station in Fargo, ND as an NBC affiliate, then in 1967 is when their semi-satellite of their sister station and flagship WDAZ-TV in Grand Forks signed on, in 1983 is when KTHI (currently known as KVLY) swapped affiliates with WDAY/Z. So WDAY/Z became ABC and KTHI (known as KVLY) became NBC! Fast forward to 2018, WDAY announced WDAZ would be combining newsrooms and doing combining newscasts so now, WDAY does all the newscasts for all it’s stations (WDAY/WDAZ, KBMY/KMCY)

My's wfaa tv 8 in dallas sign on as kbtv in September 1949 and melody martin's abc affiliate wkbw tv channel 7 buffalo sign on in November 1958.

You're right. From its origins, there are 3 stations when it was signed on. WFAA in Dallas and Fort Worth on channel 8 was owned and operated by the Dallas morning news, a morning daily newspaper. WKBW in Buffalo on channel 7 was owned and operated by the Buffalo evening news, once an evening daily newspaper.

Fun fact: KITV in Hawaii was an ABC affiliate for as long as it existed, making it 1 of 2 affiliates in Hawaii that was loyal to their respective affiliated network for as long as they existed, the other being the local CBS affiliate KGMB.
