I love how ruthless and unforgiving chess is. Very black and white in that sense too.

It's a great time to be a chess player. So many beautiful Grandmaster games. I got my daily fix. Hopefully I can make expert one day. Looking forward the World Open.

I hoped Queen vs rook endgame from this : 1.Rh8 g2 2.Rxh6+ Kf7 3. Rh7+ Kg6 4.Rxh4 g1=Q , But Firuzja decided it is not to worth to play it thru, Nakamura knows how to convert Q Vs R, and resigned.

0:46 "we passed the 40 move mark so now there will be no time increment but upon every move, they get 30 seconds. ". ??? how do i understand this ???

Players get 120 minutes to play the game initially with no increment in time, untill they reach move 40, where they get 30 extra minutes plus 30 seconds added to the clock for every move

No time increment as in, not another 30 or 40 min after a certain number of moves but instead 30 sec for every move is what he wants to say😊

I didn't understand. Why couldn't he bring his rook to go and go for the progressing pawn on the g-file??
@soullimbo

because the pawn moves up and if he takes it, then he gets forked by the knight and loses the rook

Totally do not understand why the engine thinks Firouza taking the pawn with his king is a blunder. He sure lost but it is far from obvious why. Ok i think i see it now, the king needed to stop black pawn getting to g2.

The rook can't take the g pawn. Once the rook goes behind the pawn, Hikaru will push it to g2 and if Ali takes the rook and king are forked. Otherwise black just queens and the knight protects the Queen on g1. The king is on the right square but it doesn't need to take the pawn immediately.
