CGC quality control has gone down hill recently. In 3 shipments I had a 9.9 in 2 of them and both had cracked cases, and the third was the free comix book day with the custom label and all 15 books had the wrong label on them.

Another nice submission Jim!! I also wanted to thank you! I watched all of your videos on spine tick removals, cleaning and pressing and replicated your process. As a result, I am the proud recipient of a 9.8 grade on my original ASM #300!!! So excited to get it back!!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! Bought a Star Wars 1 CGC 9.6 from the Collectors Comics auction, had it pressed and it came back a 9.8 white pages with perfect centering! The high quality pictures from the auction are first rate, allowing you to better judge upgrade possibilities. The book is my holy grail and is happily on my wall!

⚡💥🎉 A buddy of mine and I would go to 7-11 after school on Wednesdays to pick out our comics usually just after the magazine guy filled the spinner. We would pull out the whole stack of one issue and take the best looking copies to buy. It was kids like us who are responsible for those 9.8 newsstands. 😅 We had already read the history of the Migh High collection by '81 and on weekends would take the city bus to downtown Denver to visit one of the mile high comic stores sprinkled around the Denver metro area and Boulder.

Hey Jim. Love these reveals. Really makes me want to try cleaning and pressing. Two questions: 1. You sometimes say "this book didn't look like it had been pressed before..." - what are the biggest giveaways that you look for to make that conclusion? Is there some telltale sign? 2. Do you always distinguish a book that was previously slabbed vs. raw? You'll often remark "I picked this book up for $xx." If you don't specify that that cost was for a slabbed book then we can infer it must have been raw, right? Keep up the great work - thank you!

Hi and thanks! To answer your questions: 1. Unpressed books tend to have soiling and bends that pressing would have likely removed. There are other tell-tale signs, but those are the main ones. 2. Most are raw, I usually will say if it was a crack and press.

Great prescreen results Jim. I'd love to have any of the books you showed in 9.8 Especially love me some G.I. Joe ARAH and Transformers. I believe I have that Silver Surfer as well.

Excellent submission! I had no idea the newstand of X-Men 266 was such a bump. I have a few directs and a newsstand of that one which happens to be the cleanest of the lot. I haven't started pressing yet, so perhaps that one's worthy of getting some outside help.

Usually increae the value.. depends on the signature on how much value it adds. I just found a John Romita Jr signature on the first page of an X-Men #207 that I bought for $7. It definitely should be a $150-$200ish book once I get it graded.

CGC has no incentive to improve their quality control. Not until another competitor starts to challenge their market share. Where are you PSA?

Why do you do so few books per submission? Doesn't it cost you more than doing the max of 25?

Risk mitigation. I have had submissions dropped by CGC or damaged during shipping. I keep it between 5 and 10 books just in case that's happened. It's saved me more than once.

At about 10 book submission, the price per book is only about a dollar more per book than a full 25 book submission. The main cost differences is the shipping and handling each way with is more difrayed with bigger submissions. I did a video breaking down the costs per book a couple of years ago but that was before the latest price changes. But it's probably pretty close.

Did you try calling them and sharing your thoughts on their packaging? You send so much to them they should definitely hear you out and respect what you have to say! All the money you spend towards their services. It’s insane they don’t seem to respect our collectibles, because they know they own the grading market. To me it’s almost like they don’t care, because they know comic collectors will continue to use them no matter what. 🤦🏻♂️

Actually yes, in person over the weekend at Heroes Con. The guy was very nice and said he would pass along my concerns. I did miss an opportunity though. I actually walked right by Matt Nelson on Sunday but he was talking to someone at a booth. I turned around like 1 minute later to go back and talk to him about a few things but he had disappeared. Literally, poof.
