I'm an American, toured china for the first time this February...amazing country...i plan to go back. My perspective is this: China is a relatively young country emerging into a super power (within the last 20 years really)...the fact that it has progressed as fast as it is is a miracle story which has never ever been done before in the history of humanity. Are some things going to lag behind and will catch up later? YES...things like proper hygiene, cultural dynamics, basic rights, and human rights are privileges that evolve as society itself becomes better accustomed to being wealthy. America is hundreds of years old but we are still struggling with basic civility and political empathy (the recent incident a few days ago is proof of this)...china will catch up, give them time

You are right and wrong at the same time. Blind men and an elephant. The blind men and an elephant is a story of a group of blind men who have never come across an elephant before and who learn and imagine what the elephant is like by touching it. Each blind man feels a different part of the animal's body, but only one part, such as the side or the tusk. They then describe the animal based on their limited experience and their descriptions of the elephant are different from each other.

you are right about smoking. In general the smoking situation in big cities is better than smaller cities, better in southern part of China than northern China. I think the problem is due to that cigarettes are too cheap, lack of education, weak government regulations, too much freedom in this regard. Most cigarettes companies are state-owned - big money for the government. But i have to say it is getting better day by day, a lot of places prohibit smoking nowadays.

Hi Blake, thanks for your sharing. I agree on your point of hospital manners, the public hospitals are always so crowded and people are in rush. This is much complained by the younger generation of Chinese people as well, experience in private hospitals will be way better but that also costs a lot more. However about AC I don't think it would unavailable in most public places, at least in the major big cities, otherwise how could people survive the cruel Chinese summer...where do you live I'm curious? Maybe next time if you see no AC you can just ask the staff to turn it on, there's no reason to reject such a basic request. Hope you enjoy your time in China:))

Chinese kids have the right to pee in public, it's just our culture. if you didn't see adult pee in public don't narrative as if you seen it. i heard some drunkee think they are in their own home when reality they are in public, which lead to them pee in public, but i never see it on my own eyes.

China has never been colonized by any country, especially an English-speaking one. It's amusing that you mentioned most people in China don't speak English. Why should they accommodate you by speaking your language as a foreigner in their country? For instance, as a bilingual Chinese American visiting Russia, should I expect to communicate with all Russians in Mandarin or English? Should I criticize them for not speaking my languages instead of Russian? Similarly, when you visit China, you should speak their language, not expect them to speak yours. However, successful cross-cultural communication is possible. For example, a Chinese tourist in America could learn some basic English phrases to facilitate communication or vice versa. Now, imagine being a Chinese tourist in America-would you speak Mandarin to all Americans and criticize them for not knowing Mandarin? Isn’t that quite amusing? In China, why is it an obligation for English to be spoken and not their own language??? You have a funny and absurd mentality toward non-English-speaking Chinese people in China. Even if they spoke English, they were not obligated to use it to communicate with you unless it was in places like airports or where China has foreigners coming in and out of the country since English is helpful and convenient for foreigners.
@blakehandshake9058
@blakehandshake9058 Ай бұрын
I clearly said they are not obligated and it is the foreigners responsibility to learn the language. If I was whining about that, your comment would be justified, but it’s very absurd and my attitude towards that in the video, and in reality, is not one of entitlement, as I always use basic Chinese words. I also said my Chinese needs to get better, so where is the anger coming from? I said it as a con to be an inconvenience. I guess attacking people on their videos when it isn’t justified is something you enjoy because it gives you a sense of fulfillment. You and many other people talk about colonization. If you truly were passionate about that, give the natives their land back, and move out of your house and let them in. You probably won’t. Nice try though!

smoking is unfortunately from Mao's time period, during the cultural when so many people smoked like there's no tomorrow because it's cool, and still carried forward to this day. Thankfully, it's less with the younger generation because of cancer awareness. Don't know if this is still prevalent, but there use to be a peer pressure to smoke, when it's offered to you by a boss or manager, and would be rude to turn down. Of course in the western world, smoking is banned for the large part. Here in Canada, I still remember during the early 2000s when smoking was in certain establishment, though it's all banned now

@@iechuanlee9326 I’m not making up stories. Why would I do that if I would try to grow a channel? You can disagree with me, but that doesn’t mean you have evidence and the right to say that I’m making stuff up. Even if I wanted to “make stuff up” my wife wouldn’t allow me to do that, as she filmed everything and loves China a lot and has traveled here pretty often when she was a kid. There’s literally nothing in my video where I would show I’m not open minded and disrespecting Chinese culture. I’ve lived abroad since 2019 and have traveled to several Asian countries. You probably haven’t watched my other videos showing a lot of respect to this country, but being ignorant is a choice. Trolling someone on their channel is easy. Do what you want 🤷
