Jeff always hits his head because all the alternate/bad timelines are his fault. That means Jeff’s hubris is a detriment to them all

Or he just hits his head no need to get all English teacher on us trying find a deeper meaning in something that doesn't have it "hmm yes this pizza is hot'nready because of how many gasoline there is in the u.s also because of fire being apart of the world since the beginning of time speaking of fire hell has fire therefore pizza is the devil therefore little ceasers is the devil"

I interpret the real ending where abed calls jeff out and Jeff goes to get the pizzas as saying that when Jeff steps up as an example and a leader it's when the group is at its best. Jeff's little trick to not have to go get the pizza himself slightly poisons the good will of the group. But when it's called out Jeff gets acknowledged for being clever, steps up to go do a nice action for everyone and everyone else is allowed to have a good time

You could also read it as the group is best without Jeff and his manipulation. I prefer your take on it though

@RJ-wx3fh 3 күн бұрын
@@stephengrigg5988 i think the pizza example is more showing Jeff is work shy but smart and actually not a terrible person- it's not serious manipulation and he folds almost immediately when challenged- I think it could be that Abed feels most comfortable when he can predict and influence the group himself ie. The timeline where Abed sees what Jeff is doing and calls him on it.

There's also the matter of interpreting the alternate timelines as objective or as Abed's imagination or some combination of the two

The alternate dimensions were both real in the sense that what we saw was in Abed’s (or another member of the group’s) imagination in the assertions made about it by the show’s main characters. However, it is somewhat undisputed that the Community Universe really is some type of a multiverse that branches into varying numbers of other timelines, based on how many possible choices any single situation presents (such as rolling the die by Abed having 6 outcomes and thus timelines) and your individual timeline or dimension exists as the sum of yours and other choices. The totality of these choices’ impact come together to create each timelines’ infinite branches, on which exists a *singularly unique place and time,* created by/arrived at by a unique selection of choices, that exists as a *singularly unique universe,* as a result of those *same* set of unique choices. The *singularly unique circumstances* of each unique time/place of each unique timeline created by the unique series of choices creates what the show considers their multiverse. The characters speak about it abstractly, what we see may be the actual multiverse, or their imaginations, but, I’d say multiverses definitely exist in Community’s world. One’s current “Consciousness,” (in the show’s model) just represents the point on the pathway of branches/choices being experienced by a character resulting from their present timelines’ previous, accumulation of choices they experience, or reality/timeline/dimension/circumstances they experience.

Britta sees the pizza delivery guy again 14 or 15 episodes later and through a couple quick glances at troy she shuts the door on him and doesn't take it any further which I thought was a nice moment

While Biology 101 is the first episode, it mostly puts the conflicts from the previous season to rest. This episode feels like the real opener for the season. It has a little thesis about each character, which is played out over the whole season. The darkest timeline is used as a symbol for characters losing hope later in the season. And, of course, there's Abed's speech. While Abed is wise about them needing to appreciate what they have and being able to get through anything with each other, it has one flaw: how do they handle life when they can't be together? P.S.: He also tellingly doesn't say what his and Troy's roles are in the group.

This is a phenomenal video, though I can't tell if the fact that there's a weird 3d anaglyph effect is on my end or if it's part of the video - I'm pretty sure it's the video that's doing it, but I'm not 100%, it's just distracting as hell. I like that Pierce throws the troll present in the tiny trash can as if Abed and Troy wont find it later after they all leave. Would have made more sense to throw it out the window. They're gonna find it eventually and it's gonna cause problems. Even if he tries to sneak it out later when they leave someone's gonna ask about it. lol

Love this. However this episode is #2 for me behind the first D&D episode. This makes me want to make more Community videos. Would be interesting to see your top 10 episodes. There are 4-5 episodes that I think would be the same for almost everyone, but the others I think would be particular to individuals and interesting to see.

i love how well this episode sets up that jeff's need to be cool and protect himself really hurts all of them, adn that if he can just get out of his own way, things can be ok. he could've let annie's comment while they made out go, and been happy that the woman he liked found him attractive, and this couldve been the start of something... but it makes him feel old and creepy and so instead he lashes out about her bubble gum lip gloss, effectively saying "i'm not too old, you're just immature!" he makes britta unhappy by implying shes being cringey, troy unhappy by insulting his manhood, pierce unhappy by calling him old, he even is the one in charge of the pie boycott. he loves the group but he's so insecure that he holds them back. but when he leaves briefly, the rest can embrace their corniness and just have a good time. and a lot of people have said that this is proof that jeff is "bad for the group" or "the villain", and i'm glad you instead pointed out that jeff just needs to be less prideful. when he comes back from getting the pizza, he couldve shot everyone down. but he sits back and lets them have fun... even though he still refuses to eat carbs by pulling the toppings off the pizza. abed calling him out did him a lot of good. basically, we see that he's capable of overcoming his faults, but he can't quite commit to it yet. (A huge difference from like, season 5 and 6 jeff, who embraces goofiness.) jeff is so relatable lol. i always felt like the overall message of this show was "stop trying to be better than your surroundings and embrace where you are in life". I've also always wondered if the timelines are meant to be in abed's head, implying that this is what he thinks about the group... implying that abed leaving causes the rest of the group to fall to emotional disarray, troy leaving leads to disaster, etc. Also i loved that you pointed out that pierce brought up jeff's dad to try to make him leave/get him hurt! I never noticed that before and always wondered about the line.

Great video btw. Great editing and analysis. I did a few long Community Deep Dives and got copyright claims that blocked one of them. There's the option to dispute it under 'fair use' and say 'hey this is a video essay, commentary' etc and it worked. This process also happened with a few other videos. They overturn the copyright block if its commentary.

Just a heads up I am an avid cannabis user and I can tell you wholeheartedly that the idea that you can become addicted to marijuana is blatant misinformation, I don't think that the misinformation is coming from you but I do understand that society has shaded the ideal of Mary Jane in a negative light through films like reefer madness (formerly "tell your children") and I believe that it's not just Britta that partakes in the cosmik debris infact I'm pretty sure Troy and Abed regularly take edibles Jeff is an alcoholic and Annie regularly self medicates in secret Pierce enjoys pretty much anything and everything at the drop of a hat and the only one that is clean is Shirley oh wait peyote nevermind. My point being don't judge someone for trying to expand their mind because they are just trying to make it through the day and take care of head.
