Congratulations Mike for producing such a sensitive and informative video, which certainly brought back happy memories of my own childhood, when I also started with a similar set. The seed was set at an early age and is still very much in my soul...5* Bob

+mark farley You should have a great time! I was up in the loft yesterday winding keys! I also experimented with trying to get the train to run longer. I hope to upload a video on that in a day or two!

Thanks Bob! We certainly owe a dept of gratitude to Frank Hornby and his Meccano Company! His Dinky Toys were also my constant companions from as early as I can remember! I kept spending my pocket money on them especially the buses!

A little hard to come by on this side of the Atlantic (I hang my hat in the States), but I find I'm rather taken with these wonderful old tinplate trains, been having a blast running them on my O gauge layout. Got lucky and found a set from a gentleman in Canada and a few extra wagons from hobby shops here in the states, and I suppose it's got me hooked on Hornby O gauge.

Bits and pieces are hard to track down even over here. But I get a lot of fun from these old designs which take me right back to my youth!

@@ADMIRALSCORNER Too young to have experienced them as a boy myself, but I certainly wish I had sometimes, toys from yesteryear just seem so much better than what's around right now. I tend to have some luck finding Hornby O on ebay, usually tend to go for the more common items or play-worn examples as they tend to sell for less, and I intend them to be run and played with instead of gathering dust on a shelf as collector's pieces. That's what Meccano Ltd. and Mr. Hornby made 'em for, after all.

There is no date on the box but other leaflets I have of the Hornby range when I was getting extras to go with the set are dated from 1952. I did start with a smaller set called an M! as far as i remember so this set is more likely to date from around 1953 or 1954 I would think.

Yes you are right. There are books on the market which can help in this respect.. There are many out there that give all sorts of info and facts for those interested. The one I have is titled THE HORNBY GUAGE O SYSTEM by Chris and Julie Graebe.
