An architectural family house, The Way House stands steeped in history. Originally crafted by Darryl Way Architect, the renovated dwelling by vittinoAshe draws upon its architectural heritage in embracing its future.
Settled in close proximity to Perth’s Freshwater Bay, The Way House represents a significant family legacy. Built in 1975 by the client’s father - an established architect - the home stands as a labour of love. As an architectural family house, it was important to respect the built narrative of the residence when executing the modern-day renovation.
Internally, The Way House indicates its status as an architectural family house, with old architectural elements effortlessly cohered with the new. The new studio pays homage to the original house through the replication of clean lines, materiality and finishes.
Working with Artedomus - esteemed supplier of natural stone and ceramic tiles - the client and vittinoAshe highlights The Way House as an architectural family house. Artetech Ombra Carbone porcelain panels are used as a minimal means of ornamenting the kitchen, positioned in striking contrast to red recycled bricks. In the bathroom, Artedomus INAX tiles communicate a minimal design language to foster a sense of serenity.
Renovating a house that embodies a meaningful history, vittinoAshe and the client, Mischa Way invests in an ongoing residential narrative. An architectural family house, The Way House articulates the important role that architecture plays in family life and provides an inviting space for the next generation.

I appreciate Mischa's emotion at the end. That comfortable warmth the house appears to give, the fact she grew up there, and that her father built it make this so rare and special.

So sweet to see a family keep their 'ancestral home' and even add to its legacy. This is and continues to be an issue personally, as larger old homes get passed on to more numerous family members and generations, hope to keep and create a special space in one of ours one day :)

The home sprang from her father's creative mind and Mischa enhanced it to perfection in her parent's honor. That alone is a rare thing! Beautiful home inside and out. Love it! ❤️

Loved the way light played throughout this beautiful home. It's so well extended it's hard to distinguish which is the old house and which is the new portion. How amazing to have grown up there and to continue to develop the site for future generations of the same family. That's special.

What interests me is that the original modern contemporary design of this home built in the 70’s is still current today with just a few rendered tweaks and additions

What a lovely thing to do to honour your parents’ home. I couldn’t live in house with so much red and orange, but I can still appreciate the beauty of it. Well done.

Hi Daniel, the tree in the centre courtyard is a Poinciana and the trees in the back yard are 2 very old Mulberry trees that the house was effectively built around.
