This is a short synopsis of my hike of Mt. Elbert on 6/ 18/2024. This was a bittersweet hike as the vehicle I'd been prepping to use as a camper to travel around the state for the summer was damaged in accident that morning on my way to the trailhead; a deer ran out in front of my vehicle at 5:00 AM and it's status at the moment is up in the air. Also, this hike was done on the north ridge route, which the AllTrails App quoted at 9.8 miles, but my fitness app clocked it at 13.0. Adding 30% to a hike at altitude is no small joke, so by the time I was back at the parking lot I was mentally and physically depleted. The summit was very windy and cold. So I didn't have the opportunity with all of that combined to really have the same summit experience I had on Princeton and Yale. But I still made it and won't let the accident that morning deter my summer hiking plans; I'll still be out here hiking and sharing. It adds to the bittersweetness that Elbert was the first 14er I attempted in 2020 on the south ridge, so I was hoping for more of a Yale experience and get to really soak in everything given it's the highest in the state, but it was still a good hike nonetheless. If you do the north ridge route, beware of two false summits. One very deceiving and the 2nd a little less so.
