I've used this pattern twice and love it. Once as an heirloom quilt after my mother in laws passing. I incorporated some fabric from a pillow she had hand sewn and always used. And the second was for a gift for my 15 year old daughters best friends Christmas/birthday gift. She said it made her feel better while she was I'll with Covid. Thank You for this easy and versatile pattern.

Hi Michaela, in order to make this a king-sized quilt, you will need an 8 x 8 block layout, which will finish at 104" x 108". You will need 32 Block Ones and 32 Block Twos. So you will start with 288 print squares and 288 solid squares. That will be 8 Moda print charm packs, and 8 Moda solid charm packs.

If it is a Sweetwater collection use Bella Solid Porcelain 182. If it is a Bonnie & Camille collection use Bella Solid Bleached White 97. For other collections go for a neutral contrast *like the Bella Silver Kimberly used for a nice neutral with her blue/green/pink/reds prints* so the print charms pop.

Hi Kimberly...I have finished my rows of each block 1 and 2. I have a question. Should I add a border or just finish up with binding? If it would be a good idea to add a border what would you suggest - a matching charm pack cut in half to form a rectangle? I am sort of a new quilter. Thanks for your help and suggestions! Joyce
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I personally prefer the quilt without a border however if you want to make this quilt larger and have the piecing float inside a border...I would recommend a 5" solid border. If you pieced a border together it might look too busy. However, if you are just interested in making this quilt larger, we have done the math for you. Check out our link here: fatquartershop.blogspot.com/2015/03/charm-pack-cherry-versary.html

Thank you for talking slow and for talking layman's terms. After pressing specific seam directions, marking the top of the blocks seems so standard, yet no one has ever mentioned this when I watch other tutorials. I get so mixed up if I turn one or set one over to the side. And the math all makes sense. Knowing how many finished blocks I will get from these cuttings gives me a light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Sometimes the piles of cut strips 2 and a half by 5 and 2 and a half by 7 get too overwhelming and I lose confidence in beginning to sew. This made sense.

hi Kimberley im very new to quilting so I would like to ask you why do you press the seams the way you do? is quilts block always press this way? also what size are your squares? sorry to ask. love this video.
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 10 жыл бұрын
Hi dogandcatmum, thanks for watching. The reason you would press your seams in different directions is because it reduces the bulkiness of your block. When you overlay fabrics your block gets bulky and uneven. If you alternate the fabrics, it balances the weight. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to let me know if you need any additional help!

@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane! For a 65” x 81” size, you will need a 5 x 6 block layout, so three Block One Rows (15 Block Ones) and two Block Two Rows (10 Block Twos). You will need to start with 13 Solid and 13 Print Nine-Patch Blocks. That means you will need 117 squares each of prints and solids, so 3 print and 3 solid Moda Charm Packs.

I have a Picnic Pop pack (Me and My Sister) that I have been holding on to for the right quilt. Do you think that would look good in this pattern for a baby quilt?

It turned out great!!! I used a green for the solid that was in the sheets, etc, on her list. It came out better than I thought! Thank you for the pattern! Also I really appreciate that you give row dimensions in the pattern. I do quilt as you go so this really makes a pattern easier for me to use!

Kimberly, I have the Juki TL2010Q Sewing Machine and can't find the 1/4 Quilter's Foot with guide anywhere. Does your shop carry this or know where I can purchase one for this machine?

+Krista Hamby Hi Krista! I use this ¼” foot on my Juki 2010TL: amzn.to/1jywCOE Then for your machine you can purchase either a low or high shank adapter for the foot to fit on: amzn.to/TXtiQE amzn.to/1jyx2V2

the foot on your sewing machine looks different than on mine, is it a special kind of foot? Looks like it has a ledge to keep fabric from moving?

Hi Christine! That's a 1/4" foot, Kimberly uses it so she knows exactly where a quarter inch lines up on her fabric.

Hello- I greatly appreciate your tutorial on making this quilt. Making a quilt is on my "to do" list- however, I thought I would start small & make one for my 2 daughters 18" dolls.Do u have any measurements or link for making a charm quilt for 18" dolls?
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer - we actually do not have any tiny quilt patterns or tutorials for doll quilts. I have briefly looked on pinterest and found several free tutorials. You might want to just look around the internet and you might just find one you like. Good luck!

You could cut the charms into fours and then just follow the pattern as normal! It'll make an itty bitty charm blanket!

Could you please tell me if I should sort the printed charm packs as they are packed identically ? this is probably a silly question but Kimberley's printed charm squares came up assorted.

Charm Pack prints vary from different collections. We just simply took a scrappy approach and chose the prints from the top to the bottom. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to email me at Codi@fatquartershop.com if you have any further questions. Thanks!

No, when you work with precuts, it's crucial that you skip the prewashing otherwise it will distort/shrink your pieces.
