Thank you for this interview Chris. I'm a student of Film editing pro. Your classes helped me transition from corporate video to film advertising. My Landing trailer got me a job at a trailer house in LA 2 years ago. I also can't dance, don't follow sports, and I'm clueless when it comes to today's music. I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff as well.

I am a fulltime editor for a production company and I can relate to all of this and mean all what Chris spoke about. But the one thing I found very interesting was that Chris talked about how short form editors are better problem solvers than long form. I haven't been able to edit a film just yet. But I have taken that board for sure. And YES I would love to see part two.

Nice to meet you, great story, mine is similar, but working in a small city in Croatia is a lot different 😅 But being 40 with more than 15 years of editing I can totally relate. These days I also enjoy making trailers and doing postproduction. Good luck with your channel, its the best one about video editing that I found, ever ✌️

I started my editing life with two 3/4 inch tapes and a 900 Sony editor. Loved it. Now, I edit in premiere.

Looking forward to part 2 and also would love to see if maybe you could do a little question and answer video at some point. These conversations do bring up questions in my mind I would love to get a deeper take on. Thanks for this channel Chris, been able to help me learn new techniques while I save up for your full course!

This conversation is really interesting. Regarding trailers spoiling the ending, in particular, I actually think that trailers spoil the journey that Chris is talking about. That's why I watch about 30 seconds of a trailer and then shut it off. As an editor for over 25 years, I have an incredibly strong visual memory, and I don't want powerful images in the trailer to ruin the surprise of the IRL reveal. Despite feeling that way about trailers, I really, really want to cut them, and think that I'd be great at it, especially after listening to this conversation.

How does the final audio mixing process typically occur in a Hollywood trailer house? Is the mix engineer situated in the same office/building as the editor, and does the editor have any influence on the final audio mix? In my experience (that is Eastern Europe, small market, freelance work), it often happens that sound mixing is carried out by the same person who is mixing the movie itself. Usually, they overlook sound effects and don't invest much effort in the trailer. Consequently, I often find myself listening to a final trailer that differs in quality from what I have sent in the AAF/OMF.
