Josh shares his realisation of how desperate God is for every part of us and how the one piece that we hold back can feel so dark, so shame-filled, so vulnerable. He unpacks the discovery that the more he allows God into these shadows of the heart, the more he is met with God's affection and grace.
Joshua Luke Smith is a poet, producer and artist. He is the founder of Orphan No More, a platform for his own music and other upcoming artists, and hosts the Pilgrimage podcast. He is married to Kara and they have two young children. His second album will drop this summer.

You never have to worry about the parts of you, your life, your deeds, your inertia, your failure in the eyes of God. If you understand these 4 principles of God: Omnipresent (everywhere) Omniscient (all knowing - being everywhere means knowing everything) Omnipotent (all powerful) Immanuel (with us) .... There is no time, no place, no where that God is not with us & knowing.... Knowing what we are doing, thinking, struggling with, overcoming. There is no failure on God's part of his presence in & through our joys, difficulties & triumphs. There is no failure of knowledge. No failure of power. There is only our failure to see, grasp & understand. And once we do, it expands & expands & expands. And that, cherubs, lasts for eternity.

Paraphrasing Eugene Peterson: God loves you. He’s on your side. He’s coming after you. He’s relentless. Thanks for sharing Joshua - so encouraging!!! SDG ❤️

"my experience is the opposite" so good🙌 For me the purity He invited me into wasn't about porn, but was about birth control. (I'm not saying that's a conviction for everyone, that's something I was convicted personally about). To give my whole self to my husband, the whole package, fertility and everything, was more vulnerable than I had ever been. My fertility was always something to get rid of. In turn, something so precious has opened up in our bedroom and our relationship as a whole. My husband ended up quitting porn and masturbation and has a freedom and purity to share the wholeness of his being, to be accepted by God. It's not about following rules to avoid hell. It's purity in the love of God, who truly leads us on paths to sweet pastures which are so nourishing. Most of what I do from my humanity is from fear. What I do in Christ is in love. In his Love and Grace, which is the most real thing. Thanks for your message!

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. I've no interest in a religion that has a god that is the sole cause of all the evil in the world.

You have not understood. This World IS our training ground. A loving God does not command dumb obedience. A loving God would set us up for free will collaboration. If you LEARN what evil & suffering is, you will do whatever you can to avoid it & work to dispel it. Don't forget what eternity means.... A short time learning through experience & an eternity living joyfully & in loving collaboration to create & steward fantastic reality.

@@lornalong6468 "You have not understood." Oh sweet irony...and thinking you're superior to me. "This world IS our training ground." I think everyone is entitled to their beliefs...though I always find it interesting when someone tries to enforce their beliefs onto others. This reality may be a training ground to you, but not to me. Though of course, like most, if not all religious people, you think your faith-based belief is a fact, hence your assertion. "A loving God does not command dumb obedience. A loving God would set us up for free will collaboration." I would clarify your statement with bible god is a conditional loving god, not a loving god, for right back at the beginning in Genesis, he set conditions on free will. Translated to a simple form, the condition is 'love me or spend eternity in hell'. And when anyone disobeyed bible god, they got to suffer when he engaged in evil behaviour against them, directly or indirectly via satan. The OT is awash with examples of bible god engaged in evil behaviour, or doing deals with satan and allowing satan to do evil against anyone bible god was upset with...anyone who used their free will in a way bible god didn't like...so much for bible god's free will I say. "If you LEARN what evil & suffering is, you will do whatever you can to avoid it & work to dispel it." 1. Oh the arrogance of religious folk. I'm not the least bit surprised you think I don't know what evil and suffering are. 2. What you said has nothing to do with bible god being the sole creator of it, and a frequent wielder of it, and thus is solely responsible for all the evil behavior in the world, and all the suffering humans endure. I'm curious, what definitions of evil and suffering do you subscribe to? Then I'll share mine.
